Does anyone know how long the battery should last? Presumably there is an alternator or something to charge it when the engine is running?
Are the batteries user or dealer changeable?

Streety,
Yes, there is an alternator (mounted coaxially with respect to the drive shaft, behind the large rounded section on the right side of the engine casings) that should keep your battery charged if your bike is ridden frequently at reasonable RPM.
I would expect a well maintained (and fault-free) battery to last approximately 5 years, give or take a few.
The key to (this type) of battery longevity is to avoid deep cycles, i.e., not allowing it to drain too much.
Cheers,
Andreas

Battery life does depend upon type of use, climate, accesories used, short long running etc but Andreas is right around 5 yrs is probably typical.
