Greetings Everyone!

It's been about a year since we here at F800 Rider World Headquarters (yeah right!) sent out a mass communication to all forum members. With all that is currently going on, we thought that the time was right to break that silence and update everyone with whats going on in the F800 Parallel Universe. Without any further delay:

F800Riders.org Forum Migration - December 17th, 2007
----------------------------------------------------
Late last month F800Riders.org made the transition to a new MySQL database server in preparation for our eventual upgrade to the state-of-the-art vBulletin forum software. Since then, we have been making significant strides in getting it ready for public consumption. So much so in fact, that we are accelerating it's launch schedule.

The New F800Riders.org will open early - on December 17th, 2007 - instead of 2008 like we predicted earlier.

Now, what does that mean for you? Quite a few things actually:

- YOU WILL NEED TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD! That's right - they are hashed into database and will not import. We'll be sending out a second email about this closer to launch.

- You will need to setup avatar if you have one. The old system never had a size limit, and that would show on the new system, so we're not bringing them over.

- You'll notice a *TON* of new features to the forum such as:

--- A more robust language system with automatic support for nine different languages
--- A fantastic template system with a customizable look and PDA mode
--- New, regional forums where you can talk only with F800 Riders near you
--- An enhanced F800 Rider Garage with integrated registry
--- A 100% functional, easy to use community gallery
--- A fun, new Rider Arcade where you can play arcade games and compete for high scores
--- A brandy-new, fully integrated member map powered by Google Maps
--- Smaller page sizes which translate into faster page loads
--- An improved site layout that maximizes your screen size

You can check out the new forum right now on it's preview site: http://preview.f800riders.org What you'll see there is fully functional (with out of date data) and it's available if you want see what it looks like or want to play around a bit on it. If you have any questions about it, feel free to email or PM Rob about it (rob at f800riders dot org). We can't wait!

2007 F800 Rider of the Year
----------------------------------------------------
A forum that gives out awards? Yup, Thats us! On December 17th we'll be opening a thread where you can nominate someone for the F800 Rider of the Year, 2007. It can be anyone who owns an F800, forum member or not. Give a little run down of why you think your nominee is the F800 RotY in the thread and they are into the running. Nominations will wrap up on Christmas and final, community polling will be open until New Years Day. The final winner will be announced in January some time.

The F800 RotY will get a swanky little with our BMW Motorcycle Owners of America emblem on it. The nominator will get a fancy F800Riders.org T-Shirt and sticker.

2008 F800 Global Ride Out
----------------------------------------------------
With over 30,000 unique visits per month and thousands of F800's on the road, it's time that we communicate on a more face-to-face basis. It's been suggested that we help arrange a ride out, and we are more than happy to assist!

Save the date now - * March 8th, 2008 * - You. Your BMW dealer. Your F800. Other F800 Riders.

More information to follow shortly!

Sponsoring Member Program Update
----------------------------------------------------
The 2007 Sponsoring Member Program was very successful. It help, in part, pay the rather extensive hosting and maintenance fees, and has saved quite a few people a bit of cash at out sales partner - F800Depot.com. For 2008, and with the new forum, we'll be changing it up a bit. Slightly different permissions, a bit of a different discount at the depot.

We'll be making an official announcement about it as well once the new forum is up and rolling.

Happy Holidays!
----------------------------------------------------
Last but no least, we would be remiss if we didn't wish everyone receiving this a very, very happy holiday season. It's never been more important to remember that what unites us is so much strong than what divides us, and that despite what you may hear it is indeed getting better each and every day.

Additionally, for those who are riding through inclement weather in the northern hemisphere, we'd like to wish you safe travels as well.

Will the "SEARCH" function work better with the new portal software?

The search functionality will be on par with other sites running this software such as ADVRider.com and BMWLT.com.

I've found it much better than what we're running here.

Rob...
Is there going to be a feature similar to the 'posts since last login' that is shown at the bottom of the forum home page? I can't seem to find it on the preview.

"There are currently 3542 topics and 32 [u]active topics</u> since you last visited"

This provides a really quick way of reading only the posts that have had activity since I last logged on (and that I'm interested in reading!).

Yup - when you login there is a 'New Posts' link on the message bar. I couldn't live without this feature either.
