I was at the dealer yesterday and they said they were told by BMW Canada that their initial allocation of F650GSes was on a ship that had run aground in the Saguenay region of Quebec. Supposedly there were 5 tugs trying to free it to no avail. Dealer said they were glad they hadn't scheduled an introductory event since there is no idea when the ship will be freed.

Gah! [bh]

What is it with BMW and boats? Didn't one sink off of England/Europe a while ago?

My 650GS is supposed to be a March build with April delivery, so it's probably on that boat right now. [B)]

So is mine...... bah...
I'm getting tired of all this waiting....
I'm already beginning to look at other bikes...might just cancel my order....
Come to think of it, another ploy to delay the bikes?

With such low sale margins on them (honest my dealer siad he losses on selling them:rolleyes: Yer right) I guess they have to have the most budget transport costs ever.
Man with boat with not too many leaks and a crew that are sober some of the time cheap and willing for hire?

Well, obviously the boat didn't have ABS...

That sounds like a really creative excuse...

I agree katego. It has been more then 24 hours ago when this was reported here and I can't find anything on the net yet???

Anyone else seen anything? The media love grounded ships and I remember the first reporters were on site when they were still looting that ship with BMW's which was stranded last year.

I think it was a honda..... Anyway, we chartered a sailboat over in Greece and stumbled across a new wreck at 130'. Here's a picture of my brother straddling a bike that was still strapped to the deck. The boat was carrying a load of ceramic roof tiles and the bike was a crew members as near as we can figure.

After eating full and with nothing better to do... let's all eyeball the ship and use The Force to get it out of it's sticky predicament for the sake of our sanity...:D
This has a weird fascination to it, see link ......

MSC Sabrina well and truly stuck. (http://www.boatnerd.com/news/newsthumbs/newsthumbs_581.htm)

Cool page; I grew up in the Sault and worked on lake freighters as a kid. Those old lock pictures bring back memories.

Guess the ship did have BMW ABS and that it functioned perfectly according to the manual.

Obviously water has a fairly low friction co-efficient and ice is even lower - therefore stopping distance would be extended. Add in an uneven surface (waves) and the ABS 'feature' also comes into play where an even lower friction co-efficient is assumed to maintain directional stability.

And finally a complete stop is achieved very rapidly once it's on solid ground - exactly as intended. No fault there.

The only issue is the difference between real world events and the functional spec. - it's minor beta testing issues like this that will hopefully allow further development to accommodate user preferences for the ability to stop even when the surface of the sea is not completely level (although capsizing would not have been an issue) and that in future the shipGS model will not need to be on perfectly level, ideally dry, solid ground before optimum stopping ability is returned.

Really funny if it wasn't based on truth[:(]

Still at least it stayed upright and that was after all the key thing.

Now that the ship has been freed, does anyone know if the bikes aboard has been delivered?
