From MotorcycleUSA (http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=4382&Page=3):

Despite the no-show of the GS version of the BMW F800 Twin at last year's Cologne motorcycle show, factory insiders say that it is actually ready to go and the only reason that is delaying the launch is lack of production facilities at the factory!

Discuss... :D

I have the feeling most readers are showing some discussion fatigue with respect to the GS. The GS rumors have been out there for a little less than a year now, or even longer. I say (to BMW): "Bring 'em on !" :D[ears]
If anyone has a non-photoshop pic of the final model, please do not hesitate and share.

I think that's amazing, we are (hopefully) at days of the presentation and no real pictures! Damn it's a well kept secret!

This weekend I attended a BMW Open House and test rode a R1200GS and R1200RT. I must say that the F800ST has spoiled me bad. The engine smoothness combined with the engine note have won me over. Also, the riding position of the F800 is much appreciated (nice ergos and riding-on-rails handling). I am so impressed by the range, that I am strongly considering to change my 2008 bike purchase from a R1200GSA to a F800GSA.

I felt like a grandpa riding on the R1200RT (It was too cushy). I have not ran through the numbers but the power to weight ratio of the F800 must be good.

The R1200GS feels quite tall-in-the-saddle compared to the F800ST. As I have improved my riding skills and familiarized myself with the bike, I believe I could be quite satisfied with the F800GSA.

1) More affordable
2) Parallel Twin design
3) Newer design

Finally, the F800 is still such a rarity that I get compliments and questions all the time (nice ego boost). One 15 year old jumped out of his parents car at the petrol station and ran up to me acting if he had seen his dream bike.

Alas... At least I'm young at heart

Has this picture been posted before? I find pictures tend to soak up the time better than words.

I'd like a GS with or without the following;

- without electrical cutouts
- with mirrors you can see things in (and if I need to see my elbows I can mount a picture of them on the instrument cluster)
- a bigger foot on the sidestand
- a bigger pin on the sidestand for putting the thing down
- ABS that doesn't fail when you brake (especially since the GS will likelier end up on rougher roads)
- a coolant container that I can access without stripping the bike down
- a few more tools
- a belt drive (would be impractical with the greater suspension travel as there will be a greater tension differential and the front pulley probably won't handle it) but I want it anyway.
- a beautiful pillion passenger of the opposite sex who loves being out on the bike with me (got that already but must make sure I keep appreciating that.
- adjustable forks
- a lot more storage space (at present there is room for a deck of cards or a puncture repair kit. Right now if I get a puncture I can play cards till help arrives.)
- a better spread of gears
- better colour choices (grey and black are not colours)
- good radiator protection

Hmm...

Nope, no chance.(See the date of my previous message posted here) Since then I had a testride on the 1200 airhead and signed for delivery in Q1 2008. :D

Let us try to draw a couple of forum members to the dark side. :D Perhaps this will earn me my first "Ban of the Month Award" handed out by Grand Master Rob. [lol2]

Yeah Herr,
you just wait a month or so and you will have enough time to study licence plates on our 800GS's [}:)]

To Rob: Blast ! And I was looking forward to get a Ban...[PO]

To Batamali:
The F800GS will likely not be available until spring 2008 in Europe and for N.A. market not before the end of 2008. Why do I come up with this nonsense ?! Beta testing on customers outside USA is cheaper, due to the extent of possible damage/injury claims in the USA caused by faulty products. So I say one more year waiting for the yankees. [lurk]

Studying license plates was already a hobby of mine in my F800 days, since I drive like an old lady. Even my dealer noticed by the forensic print on my tires during trading in, that I'm not much of a daredevil at all. [lol]
