MCN (UK) reports today that the 800GS is to be unveiled in August. A 'factory spokesman' said:
"Everyone is asking questions about the superbike [the new SportBoxer] but they should be thinking about the 800cc endurance machine - this is where we are looking at the moment"
So, August unveil for '08 model?

I want the GS. I don't go off road but I could with a GS. I know that's the same thinking that people buy 4wd's with but I want a a GS. I Think.
I remember someone posting that they thought it would be a long way off because it would cannabalise the GS1200 sales for BMW. To me that doesn't make sense. Making the F800GS will cause more damage to other marques and will be a huge seller for BMW, me thinks. If the GS1200 was to suffer it would be because the F800 is that much better. BMW have the opportunity to secure a market. Why would anyone let that go?

How about this pic of the F800GS ?
Photoshopped or not ? I cannot read Japanese (nor do I intend to).

the above pic is indeed a photo montage put together by the french online moto magazine moto-station ,from about 18 months ago . but remember the G series of single cylinder bikes that BMW released at the intermot show last year ? they certainly kept the development and production of those bikes very quiet . so i would not be at all surprised if BMW suddenly show the new 800 at the paris bike show in september . it seem,s that BMW are very good at keeping any new models secret until they are good and ready .

You must be right, since the photo lacks a chain drive (clearly a belt drive) as the new GS supposed to be having.
We will see.

Yes the GS will be chain I'm sure. I don't think the belt would be up to rough gravel!
The belly pan looks good (despite being bolted to the down pipe!)
Would sure like that on my F800S :D
The worry for BMW with a strong 800 model will be that the 1200 model almost certainly has a better margin for them and dealers. The BMW dealers aren't too impressed with what they get selling the F800s because to them they are budget bikes. (ie their cut is lower)
So if the F800GS sales robbed the 1200 sales they would be out of pocket. Only us as riders would gain as we'd have a bike everyone is asking for at a price we can afford.

Yep of' course now that BMW has used all of us as Beta testeres (Pat especially..:D) for their 800cc engine they will release the rest of the 800 bikes.
I think we deserve a present from BMW, maybe an R1200S HP, heck we will betatest this too....
Me thinks...:D
