View Full Version : New owner and Dissappointed with F800
Dear All:
I have been reading this forum for some time now, and I have been riding bikes from 22 years now. Despite of some comments posted here, I took the risk and bought my F800ST. I am very disappointed since it is nothing similar to the one I tested. (rattles, false neutrals, vibrations etc) It is for sure a piece of crap!! However, different as many of the respectful people in this forum, I will not tolerate to keep a piece of crap like this and wait to see when the manufacturer reacts to this situation. I will return it to the dealer and ask for my money back.
please forgive my anger.

Do you think it might be a good idea to ask the dealer to look at it to see why it was delivered in that condition? I can guarantee you that they are not all that way and none should be. That's why the dealers get paid a set-up fee. It should have been test ridden and properly adjusted on day one.
I'd encourage you to give it a try before you give up on it. It is a very good bike.
Odd indeed. Like Kaj says, shit happens.
Good luck on the return, and I hope you find a Japanese bike that works better for you.

Yep - I third the motion - keep us informed about what happens - sometimes you get "Friday Afternoon" vehicle - I had a car once that was like that.
You should never persevere with something that makes you that unhappy...life is too short.
Go well and ride safe (whatever bike you may be riding in future)
I have a meeting with the dealer in an hour. I wil gladly let you know the outcome.

Well, there is also Triumph, KTM, Aprilia, MV Agusta, Guzzi, Hyosung. And Ducatti. And Harley.

I think if you love the bike you can put up with things any sane person would run a mile from.
My F800S at 6000 miles really does sound sad and horrible when started from cold and isn't great when it's warm.
But it runs well and I enjoy the ride. I just don't care it rattles and bangs. It's just the way the bike is.

and lest we forget that sometimes we do navel gaze too much, lane splitting yesterday I hear this godawful "rattle, clunk, nine-inch nails in a washing machine" and think "oh sh!t [eek2], there goes my engine" when, happy as a lark, some anonymous biker passes me and rattles off into the distance [8D]- once he was out of earshot, my bike sounded sounded like a sewing machine :D
So it's all relative eh!

Sorry to hear about your bike. Your anger is understandable. Sounds like the exception rather than the rule, though. A respectful conversation with your dealer should help get things straightened out for you.

And you're telling us because....???
Sorry to hear some people dislike my comment. I thought this was a free forum where people can express freely. Anyway...
For those interested, my dealer advice that according to BMW Germany somewhere along the way the 85 hp motor will be discontinued and replaced by a 100hp motor. A little heavier but more solid and less noisy, which will be free of all the common problems that most of the F800 are having right now.
I decided not to wait what can happen in the future, and they accepted my offer to replace the F800 for an R1200R
Best regards

Thanks for the update.
Glad to hear that the dealer worked with you to resolve your concerns. Enjoy the new bike.
Okey doke. I'm glad they were able to assist you. The line they fed you (if they indeed did feed you it) about the '100hp' model is absolute crap though.
There is nothing more to see here folks. Move along... :D

Great move Pal!! I am glad to hear that everything went well for you. Enjoy your new bike.

JMHF,
I am sorry that the ST did not work for you. You obviously had a test ride on an ST and liked it enough to buy it.
When you took delivery of the bike and you had concerns about it surely your fist course of action ought to been back to the dealer and not post on a public forum that this bike is "crap".
The last comment that you made about the1sen is rude and not at all funny.
Even so I hope that you will be satisfied with the R1200R.

Just for the record the "Comment removed by Rob. Reason: Comments like this are absolutely not tolerated. Please do not insult other members." was posted for the1sen

To be honest, i'm not sure what i'm more surprised by, the poor quality of the bike or the attitude of those responding here.
I've been watching this forum for about a year now before getting an F800S and in that time i've test ridden 3 different F800s. 2 have been great, and one was terrible - they were completely different bikes.
The posts on this forum in that time reflect that difference in quality. There have been threads about every aspect of the motor and drive train as well as suspension and handling and by and large these matters have been resolved for those with the problems by their dealers through the well documented series of mods and upgrades.
Here is a guy who was obviously pleased enough with the test bike to spend a not inconsiderable amount of money on a new purchase and clearly got one of the bikes that, probably like the one i test rode, had not been properly 'fixed'.
He therefore did what everyone else does here - raise the issue with those in the community stating his obvious disappointment. Rather than getting a sympathetic view (which given the background of the bike, might well be expected), he gets blindsided by almost everyone because he stated some information about his bike!
When i bought my bike i was able to choose from the stock that the dealer had 'in the pipeline' and there were bikes there which had manufacturing dates of Feb 07. I ordered my bike 3 weeks ago and actually waited an extra week to take delivery of a bike that had an April date rather than the March one that i was due to have.
It is very possible that this guy simply got a bike that had been 'crated' for a long time and had not been subject to the 'upgrades' that others were.
I think he was quite right to raise it with his dealer and also raise it here.
I just find it unbelievable that he would get such a blasting for being so disappointed with his bike and actually seeking some sort of advice.
- God knows, it's not like he's the first on this forum to be similarly angered by his pre-mod bike is it?
Thanks rbbhghs. I never said all F800 were crap. I always refer to THIS bike (My Bike). You have had to drove it to understand the poor quality of the bike they provided.
I am sure there are many F800 very well built. I am really glad for those who have it.
I just hope that new buyers are aware that not all of the F800 are built with the same quality, maybe due to the date they were built.
Regards
I'm pretty sure what a few people we taking issue with was the similarity in the post that started this thread, and other posts on some forums that are considered 'trolling'.
If we take it what's going on here at face value (which is most likely) there was an issue with a bike, and the dealer responded well (in my opinion) to it. Done deal. There is nothing more to see here.
Looking at it from the flip side, it's very possible that the original poster's goal here was to troll. Who knows. Who cares.
I'm locking this thread and sending it off to purgatory. I truely do hope the origional poster is happy with his or her R1200R. When spending this much money, that's really what it's all about.
Everyone play nice now.
