It has been suggested that a “How to” thread on this issue might be useful.
I suspect, however, that there should not be many, if any, bikes that have not had this mod performed. According to sources quoted on the old thread referred to below, bikes built since January 2007 will come with the mod already built in.

If you want to check that your bike has the new cush pulley, then follow the steps set out below:
The only tool you will need is the “screwdriver blade, cross-head/Torx 25” which is under the seat (see page 2.14 of the manual).
Remove the plastic cover illustrated in Picture 1. This is done by removing three T25 screws (circled in Picture 1). Take note: one is shorter than the other two!

If your pulley looks like the one in Picture 2, breathe slowly, go straight to the phone and book the bike into the nearest BMW service centre. This is the UNMODIFIED pulley. Get it replaced.

If your pulley looks like the one in Picture 3, relax, replace the cover and screws, return the T25 implement to its place under the seat, lock the seat, put your key in your pocket, go inside and pour yourself a drink. This is the modified pulley. Your bike has been modified either by your BMW service centre or the dealer; or it had been built that way.

I’m assuming that, if the pulley had been modified, it’s a fair assumption that the clutch mod has also been done. The two seem to have gone hand in hand. However, some others may have a more informed view on that aspect.
