View Full Version : trans clatter
Took delivery of my F800ST 6 weeks ago. Im worried about the clatter the clutch makes when idling. The dealer said it is most likely normal but Im not sure I believe that. I dont know anyone in my area (Ft Worth) who has an F800 to compare it to, so I dont know if its excessive or not.My personal preference would be no mechanical noise at all, but in the world of motorcycling that would be rare. One bit of advise the dealer gave me was to install a louder exhaust to drowned-out the noise. When I had it in for the first service they didnt seem concerned, everything check-out good.

The trans is a little noisy -- about the same as my old 650 -- nice clunk sound into first gear. Listen to the dealer -- except about the exhaust idea -- the bike's under warranty. If he's wrong, he'll fix it. Wear ear plugs; I do and then all I can hear is the voices in my head. Just ride it and enjoy it. It's such a great fun bike.
thanks for the input-by the way I can hear the voices without the ear plugs

Jeff,
I think they all clatter away at idle, gets quieter when you pull in the lever.
There is only one other one out here and it made the same noises as mine.

Hi Jeff and welcome
Re the noisy engine, do you know if yours has had the clutch & pulley mods? I expect it has if it is only 6 weeks old but worth asking your dealer. Pre mod 800's were noisier.
Re louder pipe...I have the BMW supplied akrapovic and have taken out the baffle (its actually not a baffle but it comes out :) ) and that is a nice sound to the ears
just changed my oil to synthetic, the clutch is much quieter.I did pull the cover off to see if i have the upgraded pulley and i do. thanks for the help -- now back to riding
