Clamp on with one way screw heads. There are a few good spots on the seat support bar but couldnt get the backup bracket in there. This location is the only place I found without modifications or dismantling. $24 USD to my door. Difficulty 1 (out of 100) :D http://lockitt.com/accessories_helmet_holders.htm#helmetlock

Thats the best spot that i could figure on my bike as well. I had to get the lock at a Triumph dealer. BMW didnt have anything, nor did the honda dealer have anything. But yes, that is a good lock, and probably the only decent place to put it on the bike.

I have the Ztechnik helmet holder that fits behind the license plate. It holds two helmets and is nearly invisible. In addition when using both locks it gives the F800 a rather pronounced manly look.:D:D http://www.ztechnik.co.uk/index.html?lang=en-uk&target=d13.html

Now if I were a dog, I know just where I'd want to cock my leg. No lamp posts for me, no siree! I'm gonna use that nice white doggy toilet that someone left out in the street! [}:)]

Has anyone used the optional BMW cable and the underseat hook helmet lock?

I'll bite: What optional BMW cable? I thought those hooks were a sick joke!

The owner's manual shows an optional cable that goes through the underseat hook and around your helmet. Certainly doesn't look like high security for an urban all day parking situation, but could prevent a crackhead from running off with your helmet while you're having lunch.

Right you are now that I looked. Right on page 54. Guess I can buy a coated Kryptonite cable too, because the manual says the optional cable could scratch the side plastic.

Yes I discovered the otehr day that there was no std helmet lock facility. Spent ages looking trying to work it out.
Every bike I've ever had has had a faclity to lock the helment via it's strap under the seat. Stange BMW couldn't make that possible.
And how much extra would it have cost to have included the optional cable pre fixed under the seat.
I mean it's not like many places in the world allow riding wiothout helments!
But a good solution davcon

I like both the Lockitt and Ztechnik solutions, but can't for the life of me see how I could use them with my Schuberth helmet, which doesn't have the more straightforward D-ring strap, but rather a seat-belt-like mechanism with two prongs for the male component instead of an enclosed opening? Am I restricted to using a cable locking solution?
Cheers,
Andreas

Warby, I have both the Ztecnik and the Schuberth. I solved the problem by inserting a medium size key ring through the chin strap. It works and it does not get in the way while riding. Here is a variant of the Ztecnik model. http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/index.html#General

You know, I found out this was no big deal. Went to the dealer parts counter, US $14.00 and with local tax, $15 and change. Now have it, and there is a slot under the seat by where it connects so out to it and loop back in and voila, entire helmet and jacket in one gulp!

Excellent. Is the cable plastic coated so it won't scratch the body work? I was thinking of trying to find some type of a nylon strap to use with the underseat hook.[thumb]

Plastic coated and nice eyelets to attach to under seat hook, and can run over body work, but the real nice secret is on my S there is a slot directly in-line and under the hook about 1 inch by 0.5-.75 inches that it can loop through without resting on body work at all! YMMV, but I can try to take a pic and show it, the problem is I have to take by bike in for the seat tongue "repair" because this week after 8 months, my seat won't mate with it, without a push underneath the tongue with a long hook like tool. So I can't take off seat now until then.
Also, it is just long enough for the helmet and a slightly scrunched up jacket sleeve through.
