I'm thinking about buying a 2013 F800GS in Kalamata metallic. Any complaints with this colour? Sometimes a matte finish is hard to care for, and paint easily damaged.
Also, any pros/cons/complaints with the 2013's

Mine is great. no issues other than I put a layer of 3m paint protection film on the battery cover to prevent scratching from tank bags etc. When doing so, I noticed that the area where the paint stopped underneath (not visible) was slightly prone to peeling. That said, if you don't touch it, unlike me, it should be fine.

How come only us Canadians are replying to this?

I too have a 2013 Kalamata F800GS and I love everything about it. The color (looks especially nice with the black anodized Zega Pro panniers, black MOD skid plate and rear luggage rack (that's another Canadian company btw) and black engine protection bars.

I have no paint peeling issues with my bike. But I think John's might have come from an earlier production run than mine.

If you can wait that long to see one I'm planning a trip over NS, up to the Rock and then off the top end to do the TransLab in a counter-clockwise direction... probably will be around the end of September.

I've seen matte finishes on other bikes, that tend to get shiny spots if the paint gets rubber. Almost like a greasy finger print. Just wondering if the same happens with Kalamata.

No problems with my 2013 kalamata. The only matte parts are the black plastic, the kalamata is a smooth finish.

The GS is intended to age and weather. Scratches and dents will only add to the character. The kalamata olive matte is perfect for this.

Just come ride with me and my gang in the Ganaraska after a good storm and you won't think about scratches again. Scratches are healthy and liberate you from being anal about every stupid little aesthetic matter. Seriously, boys, protecting your investment is one thing, but buying a bike engineered to have the crap kicked out of it for years, and that can go almost anywhere, and worrying about cosmetic damage is just prissy... Right, Leslie?!

The only time you should think about scratching is when you stop riding, and the mosquitoes come after you.

B'yes, I'm not a new rider. Just asking about this type of paint finish, as I've never owned anything like it. I have just under 50,000klms on my 2009 KLR in four years....and I try and give it a wash once a year.
