Looking for info from a BMW Tech that know the F800GS
I added heated grips to my 09 F800GS, bought used parts off of ebay.
my wiring harness had the plug to the heated grips so I gave it a try, but was told that if the bike did not come with the heated grips option then it would need to be turned on in the Canbus.
    Is this true?
How long does this take? as my local dealership charges by the half hour.
    thanks for any input.

I can't tell you if it is true or not,
but if it is true ... it should not take more than a half-hour .. not even close assuming that everything is in order otherwise.

    Update,
Got it programmed today by Touring Sport in Gvill they charged $73.50 they also reset my service counter.
So for any F800 owners they can add the heated grips if the bike didn't come with them for relatively low cost.
it was pretty easy just plug and play other than BMW having to program the Can-bus
One thing changed was I upgraded to 2013 grips because of issues I read on the solider coming loose on the 2009, the 2013 grip had to be modified to work on the 2009 but they did plug in to the existing harness
    They work great now.

    Glad it worked out!

What did you have to modify to get the 2013 grips to work/fit?
One of mine (2009 also) broke but was replaced under warranty ...
I expect I'll be replacing them myself at some point in the future but didn't realize the mechanics of the design had changed ...

    sorry for the delay
For the left grip I had to cut the old grip mount that holds the left controls on then cut the new grip tab off and epoxied the old tab to the new grip

Then had to redrill a new hole to hold the screw that holds the grip on.

The Throttle side I only had to cut a small piece of plastic that was keeping the throttle from rotating all the way but had to use my old metal housing.

    Thanks Derek!
I've been traveling over the holidays and just got back.
    I appreciate the details!
I'll follow your lead if mine burn out!
