Hey all, new bike owner here........

My name is Craig and I have been on the hunt for a bike that I like for a little while now.......something mainly to run in to work each day to help keep the k's down on my Landcruiser so that we can hang onto it for longer as there is way too much money into it......and it is now just about perfect for our families touring needs.

Was mainly focused around the Yamaha naked bikes.........until local shop gave me a call about a BMW they had got in. Never really considered myself on a BMW but decided togo and have a look anyway. Well it was nearly love at first sight, had never seen an f800r before and i fell in love with the quirky looks, sound.......and it was my favorite colour. So easy to ride, very forgiving (my first time back on a bike in about 12 years) and just about a perfect bike for my needs

She is a 2010 F800R and she became mine a couple of weeks ago........

Welcome Craig! Great looking R there, and love the color too. Also looks like a nicely outfitted Landcruiser, best of both worlds!

Welcome to this wonderful world, Craig.

That was my home town for quite a few years.
In fact, I'm heading up there in a couple of weeks to see the daughter and family.
    Keep safe.

Did a quick local run today trying to work out some good gopro mounting locations......this one was on the indicator but I think there is too much vibration. I have a handle bar mount and will try it next

Not bad, Craig! any fairing mount position on an F seems to cop vibration. Have you tried a chest or helmet mount yet?

Not yet Ian.......not overly keen on sticking it to the side of the helmet, but chest is not a bad idea.....

Welcome Craig. Love the color of the bike. The video looked as if you could have filmed it in the eastern part of North Carolina--other than the cars being on the opposite side of the road.

Craig, do you live out in The Palms - Scrubby Creek area?
I just noticed your starting point as I have been out in that area many a times when I worked for Energex up there.

There's some beautiful country out that way.

Welcome to the F8 site Craig, that orange seems the best colour for that bike. Have fun in your ride.

Yep, we used to live at Imbil, before moving to Nambour, so I know the roads quite well out that way, especially up the Obi Obi to Mapleton.

Have you done the circuit, going up the Valley to Mapleton and Maleny, down through Stanley River Rd, to Woodford, continue to Nanango, Goomeri and Kilkivan and back to Gympie.
And then theres out to Cedar Pocket and around through Kin Kin. Ahh, some great bike roads around there.

But just watch it if you go to Mount Mee ( notice the double 'ee' in the area name ), great road but usually a few police around there.

Another glorious Sunday morning so we hit another of the common local bike haunts, another to remind you Stevd of what you left behind........lol

Gympie to Kenilworth via Sky Ring Road. All good except for the car driver trying to do a u-turn on the blind twisties.......and the bug guts on the GoPro

You would've needed to park in the shade in kenworth yesterday with the heat.
Coming back from caloundra yesterday we took the valley link road from the highway,
back through amamoor, Dagon and jones hill just for old time sakes

Yep, warm old day.......but the park bench in the shade out the front of the library with coffee in hand, watching all the flash bikes coming in from the south is always good..........
It is a good bit of road on 4 wheels as well.......especially with air con.......lol

Welcome to the cauldron Craig. Nice colour by the way. I've only seen one orange F800R in the flesh and they look great. Not many F800Rs in my neck of the woods.

Maybe. I bought my F800R unridden. A mate had a 2009 Chris Pheifer model he used to rave about..

I did a lot of research before settling on an F800R though. At the time I was still living abroad.

Impressive result from the clutch lever mount, Jurgen - I will try it on my ST, ASAP ( provided the screen doesn't get in the way). Thanks for the info.

Thanks Ian. It's a cheap GoPro tripod mount which sits neatly on the clutch lever mount.

Brings back memories, mind you it looks like they've done a bit of work on the range at Kenilworth.
I used to like the long tightening right hander on Skyring Creek Rd and you left out the tight twisties on the Kin Kin run.

    Otherwise good show.

Oh, Rose and I did 860kms in the one day on the one trip down to Vic. Toughen up, boy

Steve,, I did 2,600 kays in three days on a Moto Guzzi Le Mans, without company. All open road riding through central NSW, the Snowy Mountains , then up the coast to home. That was around 20 years ago when I was younger and fitter.

I'd give it ago on my F800R today. I always thought my Moto Guzzi was a great open road bike, but the F800R is better in many ways.

Tight twisties at Kin Kin got left out this time as we got stuck behind a caravan and a couple of cars and was stuck at 30kph......

Kenilworth range is nice, hotmix and concrete on the sides to keep the rocks/gravel off.............Obi Obi road to Mapelton/Maleny is next on the list........
.........and yeah, yeah........my wrist will toughen up.....lol

Craig, the range at Kenilworth used to be narrow and rough like the Kin Kin twisties. it looks too sanitised now, but just as twisty still.

When you're up Mapleton for a ride, you have to drop down to Nambour. There's a nice tight downhill left-hander with a dip just prior to the corner that is great fun.
The road is steeper than the GE snip shows it to be.

Well, quality is pretty poor due to crap on the lens (I now have a microfiber cloth with the GoPro as it is not the first time it has happened) but the ride went well

My mate has given his sister her new (old) bike and she is stoked

plus a little bit of the Kin Kin twisties Steve

Aaaaagh, they've sanitised that section also.

Mate, my memories of that road are like the first few bends, narrow, rough and broken edged, not two clear lanes that are billiard table smooth

I used to love the bit up the Obi Obi range (1.48 - 3.30), the video just doesn't show up how steep it really is.
If the worlds align it is one terrific bit of road.
Also before anyone says anything about him using all the road, it's one way up the hill.
