  1. Ohlins spring kit for F800S

    G'day all,

I have just installed the Ohlins fork spring kit (08751-90) for my 2007 F800S. At this point I have not experimented with different grade fork oil, I simply dropped the new springs in. I now need to ride the bike for a few days at least to get a feel for any real change. I found the standard springs too soft for sporty riding.
That is not to say that the stock springs give poor handling, just that I was unhappy with excessive dive during hard braking.
The real point of my post however is to ask if anyone out there has installed the Ohlins kit, and noticed that the Ohlins do not have a taper wound end as the stock springs do. According to the BMW repair manual, this end should be at the bottom when the spring is inserted, so as not to cause damage. Quote: "If the coil spring in inserted the wrong way round, it will damage the sliding surface in the fixed tube when the fork is compressed. Install the spring with the taper-wound end down."

I have to say that the forks are smooth in operation, and it all feels great so far. Just some concern on the above point.

    Any pearls of wisdom?

    Cheers.

    Hello my friend,
I was thinking about fitting a set of those in my F800ST. O noticed this is an old thread, so after these months what is your feedback on your "investment"?
BTW where did you bought them?

    Kind regards,

    DirtyHarry

Take a look at this thread:

I got the Ohlins springs from Motorworks (UK).
I am very happy overall with the improved front end.

    Kind regards,

Free if you do it yourself.
Don't know what a dealer would charge, not much, it's a very simple job.

yes m8, but i have no clue on how to do it . Do I have to disassemble the front end of the bike? I mean, fairings off?
BTW, I took a peak on the kit the guys at he other thread spoke about... What's your impression on that kit?
I'm sorry for being such a pain in the ass, but I really don't much about motorcycles (yet) and I vow to learn with the more experienced.

    Kind regards,

Just did this. Easy as, with the instructions on this forum.

I now have an Ohlins rear shock, and Ohlins springs in the forks. It's like chalk and cheese.

Maybe going to try a heavier grade of fork oil.
