Richard - Current bikes: 2012 9 kWh Zero S, 2009 BMW F650GS, 2007 BMW R1200R, 2005 Triumph T-100 Bonneville, 2002 Yamaha FZ1 (FZS1000N) and a 1978 Honda Kick 'N Go Senior.
Ah well, once they put the water boxer in the R model I might be interested. No GS will not tempt me to discard my black pinstriped '07 R1200R![]()
Only took 90 years and the old boxer is finally DEAD! It's still a big heavy bike even is it does have 125HP.
I think the 2000-2002 GS1150 is one of the best they ever built. Ease of maintenance, very reliable, and then they went and loaded it down with extras that it didn't need and added to the cost and lowered reliability.
Now they are doing it to the GS1200.
Is the small added weight but much more added complexity really necessary? Are they hedging their bets by keeping the old model around for awhile?
Still no comments about the last couple of paragraphs of the article? I believe that this was the BMW new model launch where Kevin Ash died in an accident, but I haven't heard a peep how it happened>

Silence is always the case after a life ending accident happens and it would be fairly dangerous to speculate on the cause of the accident or to imply what the cause was. That paragraph does seem odd in an otherwise positive article are they hinting at what really happened? Only the editor and the writer would know if this condition is connected to the accident. There is always risk in these launch events and both car and motorcycle companies go at length to minimize risk by having highly trained professional riders/ drivers and will usually keep warning all to ride/ drive within limits etc
Yes, but the latest info on the Ash accident mentions the involvement of a second rider.
Here is a link to a very interesting video showing the the internal parts of the new water-cooled GS motor. That thing sure looks expensive to build. It has a lot of gears going around and around.
