I was raised in a country 2-room, grades 1-8, Catholic school, with a chapel (for daily Mass) that ran along the back side of the 2 rooms.
My suffering was from verbal abuse by the Palatine Nun who taught grades 1-4 and the Alter Boys.
My failings in life are the direct result of my unhappy childhood in that school.
I went into 9th grade public school very naive and confused about many things.
My first experiences in 9th grade public school was watching my (bigger) 1st cousin deck a sex offender who tried to solicit me outside school. The guy got up threatening Ron, so Ron hit him again. (The guy later died in the WV State Penitentiary while serving a life sentence for killing a 14 yr old boy)

This documentary reveals the cover up that stills exists from the highest position in the Church. They allow pedophiles to roam within the Church to this day. The Celibacy requirement is selfishness by the Church and is not normal. One Nun, whom I deeply respected, kept trying to talk me into going into the priesthood. But even at age 10, I knew this was not the life for me. This opened the door to the huge problem they have always had and still have. They feel they are above the law and simply hide the abuses.

'Mea culpa' might be misleading Fred, I see nothing exculpatory in your 'j'accuse'.

Pedo-Priests aside, I don't agree with the practice of lumping grade 7-8 adolescents in with pre-pubescents in primary school either...
The admixture of hormonally and socially challenged teenagers amongst children is highly questionable I.M.H.O.
Good to hear the U.S is leading the way in calling the Vatican to account over the manner in which they have attempted to 'manage' away the harm caused through systemic abuse within their church!

Oh, balderdash! I did the K-12 in a Catholic school and other a young Nun all the guys developed the hornies for in second grade, Sister Mary Really Hot,and a real meanie Sister Mary Rosotta in 7th grade, I met no pedo or otherwise abnormal instructor.
I developed my own level of strangeness cavorting with neighbors and class mates.
I don't adhere to the Roman church no more but it's just a matter of my idea of God is different than theirs.
They have a few bad seeds that have poorly afflicted a number of young folks who may or may not develop into normal humans or use their adverse experience as a crutch for all that befalls them their entire life.
Folks don't wanna talk about it but how many more numerically have been screwed out of a normal life by our governments need to wage war and have repeated tours of duty in very unpleasant circumstances leaving them with PTSD.
Shame of both is that we pay for the Catholic schooling and volunteer for the military. Shows you how buggered our society is.

    Religion is like a penis.
    It’s OK to have one
It’s OK to be proud of it
    However,
do not pull it out in public
do not push it on children
do not write laws with it
    do not think with it.

Blaming your failures in life on an unhappy childhood?
Get over yourself and stop enjoying being a self-described victim. Looks like you learned the martyr part well.

"Enjoy"?.......What I've "learned" is how vulnerable and impressionable an adolescent mind is and the scarring can be forever.

But I've long since came to terms with my issues.......I've read and grown past all that and am not playing any "martyr".

Disrespect is one area I am very intolerant about...........and sadly, the self-indulgent society the internet, twitter and face page have produced, have given us a large group with little 'people skills'.
Offending people (i.e. Mike above) is easy (but many times not intended and other times very deliberate) thru these formats because of anonymity.

Fred: After enduring 12 years of catholic education, I share your pain. I was going to enter the priesthood until I learned the definition of celibacy. And concerning the martyr remark, my older brother (also a product of catholic education) had an insightful view on intolerant remarks. He always said, "I've heard bugs fart before" Ignore those who denegrate you and celebrate those who celebrate you.

Parker Brothers had a game, years ago, that never really caught on. The advertisement for it read, "Try the new Parker Bothers sensation, Incest - A game the whole family can play"

Blaming others for your failures in life makes you a bitter loser.
A lot of people have overcome far greater issues than yours.
Getting sympathy from suckers wont give you the solace you are pining for.
You are living in the past and getting cheap therapy by being a drama queen on the internet.
That is just as pathetic as blaming someone else for your life being what it is.

I guess what Mike is hinting at is that there are strong people and not so strong people and just can't be vague about describing it.
I have to admit I know a few folks that hang onto the past and can't let it go. Really hampers their life.
Others have had some very hard knocks and have set those aside for a extremely functional life.

Hinting? MikeMike called Fred, a person he never met, "a bitter loser" "a drama queen" and "pathetic" He also called those empathetic to Fred "suckers". I think the hinting ship left the dock a long time ago. I have a lot of respect for this group for not taking the bait.

The real reason Benedict has resigned is because the heat in the kitchen has gotten too hot.

A personal butler leaked a lot of documents and information to a investigative reporter who then wrote a best seller book on the lewd goings on inside the Vatican walls.

Benedict also received a 'For Eyes Only' internal investigative report of how deep and wide spread the problem is and has become literally sickened from it.........and decided he's had enough.

The Celibacy requirement is the single reason the church is in the mess it finds itself and needs to be abolished. I saw this as a problem even at age 10, when I felt this instinctively without knowing what sex was (yet) at that age.
Priests WERE allowed to marry early on in the Catholic church. I believe my mother told me the subject was discussed at the Second Vatican Council, in the early 60s, but do not know what the hard facts are on the subject.

The new pope took the name St Francis (of Assisi) in part, to honor Christs' order 'to build up my house, for it is nearly falling down'.

It is very clear why the events of late, have transpired.........and a long, long time overdue. If the celibacy requirement does not change, nothing will change.
