Well...reporting back. We tried this. And failed. We couldn't seem to cut and peel back the rubber in such a way that did not damage the grip (cut through the rubber) and we even nicked the one wire. Plus, when we put the meter on it to see if there was current flowing, there appeared to be. So we figured it wasn't the wire that was broken off and it had to be another something damaged in the grip.

So ordered a new one ($94.15) from dealer, it came in, we replaced it and it works!!! At least I wasn't charged labor since the boyfriend did it!!!

Mine went 100% success: Here are my pics

Installed basic ProGrip and they do fit over the throttle .

Also, from another thread sprayed hair spray for lube and stick.

Heated grips work perfect, maybe a little longer for heat build up but worth the 15$! plus I got to choose the grips I want!

    Old grips:

Carefully tear the rubber that serves to make it one piece.

Again, carefully help the tear with X-Acto knife and pull.

The lube stuff I stole from my daughters! Plus I forgot the can in the shed, Daughters were fighting among themselves who the hell did not put the hair spay back at its place

Throttle grip is slightly fatter than original

I hope these brings back confidence to someone who wants to try, anyway .. I needed new grips so ....

Stephanie, how did you put it back together after you destroyed the rubber cover?

It's not easy but with a LOT of patience it can be done. I hated the hard grips so I cut both off and replaced with a softer type. I had good success with the right side but slipped doing the left and cut to far. I bought a knew grip and started cutting on it, this time I was even more careful and got it. Practice makes perfect.

After getting the old ones off you can slip on your choice of grips in the same way you would install any new ones.

Straight forward, slipped on the new grips over the "tube element". The hair spray for "lube and stick" was great. Like mentioned by Charles. This was my first time and I went very delicately to remove old rubber. Once you've done this you will be home free to change your grips anytime. Their are some small areas where you have to tear off the old rubber grips. but these are small molded together areas to provide non slip of rubber over element.

Since the diameter of tube is slightly bigger than standard, once you fit standard new grips, they do not slip on element.
