So the new rules for lane splitting in California were just put on line. Mostly, they have to do with traffic speed and can be found at the link below.

How enlightened. Filtering past stationary traffic is being trialed in an area within Sydney - otherwise illegal elsewhere in Oz.
Graphitane F800ST 04/2007. ABS, OEM panniers and topcase, trip computer, clear indicators, K&N filter, SW-Motech frame sliders and R&G Racing front axle sliders, GS-911, coolant level indicator light, IN-Sound Window - and lovin' it!

That all seems eminently reasonable! What a nice surprise! Just need to roll it out in Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the so-called civilised world.

I'm a big fan of the OJ Simpson trial reference. During the OJ trial, there was a question as to whether a bloody glove that was found at the scene was OJ's. The lawyer for OJ was the larger-than-life Johnny Cochran and was famous for his "If it (the glove) doesn't fit, you must acquit!"

Found in the new rules - "if you can't fit, don't split"

Sounds good huh. I'm planning to go to California for a business trip next month. We'll maybe I'll enjoy the new rules.

I enjoy these rules almost daily now and was a factor in deciding to get rid of my commuter car in favor of my new F8!

There was some lane splitting language in the latest DMV handbook as well. Although not as comprehensive as this. Good info. Now what do we argue about at the MSF courses???

There is no problem splitting the lane the only thing is that you need to be careful as to not ride way to fast or you can get pull over for reckless driving. we had a CHP officer give a briefing to everyone that ride sport bike.
