Hi guys; hope Springtime is treating you well!
Just replaced the steering head bearings on my ST. They came over all notchy at 39,000km. Does US$245 to do the job sound right? Kinda curious as to what dealers around the world are charging for the same work... Cheers! PS: Putting off the belt job... I shudder to think of the cost...

The BMW parts are very expensive anyway but they seem to charge hours for the work. I did mine myself and the whole job took less than an hour. And I didn't have any "special" BMW tools and took my time as it was the first set fitted to this bike.

I think I paid near 200. Got the bearings at like 15% off, forget how much. And got bmw to do it. The way pat did it seems like the way.
But at the dealer they took the forks off and all that. Seemed like a bunch of extra work, but I wasn't going to tell the mec how to do what he does. Or the way he does it. So I was stuck. Took about an hour or a bit more to do. Freezing and heating and grinding. (He cut the bottom bearing off the stalk, kinda scared me.) I guess I could have done it. But I wasn't too sure of myself to take on that task. So I think I paid about as much as you, maybe a bit less.

I was pleased to see that the bottom yoke had two small punch holes that allowed the lower bearing to be easily tapped off with no need for freezing, heating or grinding. But I guess I wasn't trying to make it look hard work
