if this bike is mainstream there will be BIG aftermarket support.
I'd wait for that Only thing there I'd buy are the turnsignals. ohhhhhh they list a soft tail bag?!

Wow is right. Cahchinga, Cahchinga, Cahchinga.!
With all that carbon fiber available, it would appear to me that BMW should put out a full carbon version of the bike at a premium price, but without the need to swap out good plastics to sit on the shelf. Then again, built in carbon fiber, this bike would be less likely to do track days. Other FUNCTIONAL stuff: the levers are cool, but value is in dropping the bike, which I would prefer not to exercise! Load it all? How much weight savings? How much lighter the wallet? Trade off: empty the wallet at home and drive the bike pretty much stock. Having seen the stocker, nothing embarrassing about it. Nothing at all ! Ride safe !

I couldn't agree with you more. I would be interested in a full carbon fiber Akro instead of the stainless, but definitely no rush. What's up with some frame sliders, seen them on the WSBK's but no word yet of availability through BMW.

Rob, if you know,
1) is that tail bag waterproof? and if so 2) can you get it? It looks like it'd fit the tail of my R very well.

would they make a softbag that wasn't waterproof?
hmm, from that list, the HP footpegs and levers, tank and tail bags, and tall tinted screen. I'm not going to bother with CF, I just wouldn't get that much satisfaction out of it - very poor bang for the buck. But I will be adding a Power Commander, and will wait a bit on the exhaust to see what the aftermarket brings out. Oh, and I will be upgrading to Brembo monoblocks front and rear. AND painting the front wheel blue and the rear wheel white

Price on that was something like $2300. Don't recall more details - I'll have to dig for it.

Ah, found it again: http://www.ema-usa.com/wheels/wheels_PVM.shtml
Look for BMW K46, which is the code for the S1000RR. Forged aluminum or magnesium in a few different styles.

Just judging by the zipper to the main compartment, I'd say that it's waterproof as it's a waterproof (water resistant?) zipper.

I may do the front wheel, the thought has crossed my mind. Or both front and rear. But I think my riding will have to go up 2-3 levels before I could even begin to exploit something like reduced gyroscopic precession!
Once the #2 bike is settled (keep the F800 or what I'm working on, buying a K1300R), the S1000RR will go onto slicks, 200/50R17 rear. with folding levers and frame sliders, I will feel more comfortable about dropping the bike...which will make it that much more less likely!

At least i know if i needed to, i can swap exhaust mounting bolts with the RR.
those parts are mad money, thats where bmw is gonna make it back. sheesh, as every day passes, and new videos and info and pictures come out, makes me want the bike that much more. or really try and figure out a way to get one. I need to really throw a fat chunk on the 800 to just get that much closer to paying off. if i can do that, id finance a 1000, screw it. step MY riding skill shit up i was comparing the 800 to the 1000. not that big a difference in the amount of CCs, but those extra cylinders and higher red line sure do add a LOT more HP. looks like our rear brake has a bigger disc than the 1000, whoo!

I made a little tool based on the accessory list but I can't post it because I need to be able to upload a flash / SWF file (or if not, I just need to be able to edit the HTML of the post reply but I can't seem to do that either).

So what are you guys coming up with as the accessories that you would "need" to have with your S1000RR?
http://s1000riders.org/forum/index.p...RR_Accessories For me, it comes to $ 10735.33. Add $16,480 for the motorcycle itself... $27,215.33 ... more the MSRP of my HP2 Sport!

I'm looking at about $3000. $24~27K for the bike, and I should slide in under $30,000. D'oh!
HP rearsets (front only) and levers, the softbags, and tail hump cover (this bike will not be ridden two-up). Plus the high tinted windscreen, that's three grand! Shit, I forgot to factor in the Brembo monoblock calipers I'll be fitting separately. On top of that, the S1000RR brake lines don't appear to be race-spec steel-braided, which means new brake lines. And I didn't include the Akrapovic, as I'll wait for what the aftermarket makes....or take a trick from the R1 riders - and "core out" the stock muffler (unweld the cap, empty the thing out of naughty muffling material, then weld it back together). If the bike REALLY works out (good enough for a lifetime keeper), in a couple years I'll take a swing at Ohlins forks, and spec the bike as close to WSBK-spec as my wallet and SWMBO will allow. I've ridden a Ducati 1198S (fitted with Ohlins) in anger (finally - in dry hot weather), and they are truly something else (I say it's the Ohlins because I rode back to back with an 848, and the cornering and overall handling was truly godawful in comparison - they share the same frame, so it's gotta be the shocks, right?). I can see some serious expense though, as 46mm isn't your usual fork diameter...

I was told by a BMW rep that 46mm was chosen expressly because it's a common size for Ohlins aftermarket Superbike forks.

I find it linteresting that so many people have a large list of things to change, without even riding the bike. It would seem prudent to me to at least ride it for a bit and see what it really needs. MIKE

stock is boring man! no matter how good it is...if you don't mod, once you've bought it...there's no fun outside of riding!

as far as aftermarket stuff, from my contacts alone there will probably be: rearsets/casecover/clipons from Woodcraft complete race bodywork from Armour Bodies exhaust systems from Leo Vince turn signals/plate brackets/custom swingarms from Gregg's Customs rotors/lines from Galfer stabilizer from GPR levers potentially from ASV sprockets from Sprocket Specialists as soon as mine rolls into my garage it comes apart and is sent out to all of these companies...there will be a plethora of parts available at prices similar to all the other jap bike parts...it just may take a bit; but the stuff above, I know will be done relatively quickly since I will be waiting on the parts from them in hopes of competing on the bike at Stuntwars in Jan excitement is beginning to build!
