Everybody by now has heard plenty on the world-wide spread of the corona virus. It seems to be everywhere. Washington state had a death attributed to it in recents news. So what is happening in your neck of the woods?
Any local or national news concerning this is welcome. I'm not sure as to what to make of it myself. Maybe by combining any information here as some kind of information port. A greater understand of what is going on can be ascertained.

I just heard a news report that the Italian government is closing all of the schools in the country for the next week, or so.

Seattle Area Resident re: coronavirus

I live on the south-side of the Seattle Metro area and it's a full-blown crisis here. As of 4pm Wed, the Public Health is reporting 39 cases of COVID-19 in WA State including 10 deaths, 9 of which are in King Country (Seattle metro area). Both the state and country have announced a state of emergency. Many schools have closed, several tech firms have requested that staff work from home and two college basketball games have been canceled. I noticed that for the past two days the morning crowd at the gym that I workout at was about half of normal.

The number of cases of the virus has been greatly underestimated in China owing to victims being unwilling to self-report to the authorities. So the death rate world-wide is actually far less than has been reported and is no greater than for many other everyday viruses.

The best defence against any virus, Corona or otherwise, is to have a healthy lifestyle. Acute infections are routine occurrences for many people in modern society. Inviting viruses into their cells is a mechanism our bodies use to regularly expel their build-up of foreign chemicals, that come from eating contaminated foods and taking drugs (illegal or legal, including pharmaceutical) and not exercising regularly to promote detoxification. The same goes for bacterial and fungal infections and even parasite infestations, our bodies come equipped to self-protect against all assaults and insults in many ways.

People who eat junk food and have an unhealthy lifestyle are at a certain amount of risk of dying from opportunistic infections but the coronavirus is no worse than many others in that regard.

The healthiest diet is a plant-based one including only organically grown vegetables, and the best exercise program is one utilising high-intensity weights exercises performed once a week (ideally in a gym on pin-weight machines) to give the body ample time to recover. For each body area, aim to reach absolute exhaustion at 5 repetitions, emphasising perfect form. This way you'll avoid injury and grow a lot of additional muscle tissue. The leaner you get (i.e. the more muscle and less bodyfat you have) the healthier you'll be, and you won't have to worry about dying from coronavirus or flu etc.

I am starting to get burned out on virus news. It is on our news stations 24 hours a day, while most other news goes unreported. I am now getting robo-calls on my message machine from my local state representative asking me to join their "townhall" telephone meetings so that everyone can express their fears about the virus and we can be told how to protect ourselves against it. Personally, my solution is to ride a motorcycle without a passenger, thereby self-isolating myself from the microbes.

I find it interesting that the coronavirus is presenting itself at this time. Heading into elections, the long awaited stock market crash, and Chinese markets world-wide. Still not sure what to make of the whole thing.

It is starting to sound like some sort of Biblical plague. Did we do something to offend someone more important than us?

'The novel coronavirus outbreak will cost the airline industry $63 billion to $113 billion in lost revenue from passengers this year, the International Air Transport Association said as it revised an estimate for a $30 billion loss made just two weeks ago."

The news today reported that you need at least a mixture of 60% alcohol to kill the virus. [;)]

One other thing: As I was filling my bike up with gas at the local self-service station (what other type of gas pumps are there in California?) today, it occurred to me that I should likely be wearing gloves. Probably another great way to transmit the virus. Just one of a million ways, unfortunately. [:(]

Richard, your late to the party on figuring the gas pump thing out,,. Early in the Pandemic the few full serve stations switched to self serve and there attendant's disinfected the contact points each and every fill,,. I also noticed that the paper towel holders that are traditionally empty have been magically kept full since C19 worries, you can also use the water in the windshield cleaner to clean your hand's as no one will touch it, its clear instead of black and oily,,. We started wearing doggy bags for disposal after every fill,,!!

The region I live in is surronded by the closed areas, so we are "isolated" too.
Yesterday I went for a hike near Portofino, just to train a little and not to spend all day in the city, and the first one I saw on the trail had a milan accent... A colleague (is this word correctly written?) reported that many people from Milan and nearby areas have been spotted here, this is a turistic zone, and there are lots of "second homes"
A couple of days ago, I happened to hear an elderly woman saying something like this: "...but can't they stay at their places, well, not to be racist..." [lol]It sounded funny, because here racism is always been (so far) against southern Italy, and not among people living in the north.
Also have been spotted writings that say: no rent available for people from Milan.
I must admit that all this thing it doesn't look so fun, now

Yesterday it was announced on the news that Stanford and Washington Universities have shut down classes until the end of the current quarters and will be offering their classes only on-line. In California, one of the largest K-12 school districts in the state, Elk Grove School District (near Sacramento), is shuttering all of its schools for the next week and moving their "spring break" to the week following that. All of these actions are being taken "out of an abundance of caution" - which is what politicians always say when they are doing something that they are not sure will actually do anything, other than cause public disruption.

Meanwhile the floating quarantined cruise ship, The Grand Princess, with 3,500 people aboard, will be docking at Oakland, CA on Monday. The news is asking why is it not docking at San Francisco which has the better medical facilities? My thought is that it has to do with political influence and of the two women mayors that run the two cities, SF's mayor has the bigger balls. After all, who wants a bunch of zombies dumped onto their shores?

I note that Trump has said that if he had his way he would keep the ship at sea until everyone is cured (or dies?). My recommendation is that if you are feeling sick don't let anyone know.

So that you can spread the virus? Here happened just that...
By the way, good fellows Austria and Tschek Republic say they will be doing tests at the border with Italy, and that italian tourists will not be accepted.... it seems to me that they're forgetting Germany (with whom the both of them share a border...), after all, the contagion apparently started there...

Just trying to make light of the situation. The news media beating the drum about the virus is starting to get to me. Surely there must be some other news than that? They even have recommendations on how to survive the virus scrolling across the screen for the entire news program.

There are people around here who in panic mode, although there is no indication that they are sick, know anyone who is sick, or might be sick, or know anyone who ever met anyone who might have been sick. Everyone continues to run around buying rice, water, toilet paper, disposable wipes, soap and everything else that isn't nailed down, presumably just in case they might have to stay in their homes for two weeks and can't get to the local McDonald's for their meals.

Meanwhile, my daughter just paid a $6,000 bill for my granddaughter's next quarter's worth of education at UC Santa Cruz. I just heard that there was one confirmed case of a person having caught the virus in the entire Santa Cruz county. I sure hope they don't shut down the University because of that. I know that her money won't be returned if that happens.

The county that I live in has a population of 730,000. It was reported today that there are two confirmed cases of the virus in the entire county. Time to panic. Several schools in the county are being shut down for the next two weeks in order to protect their students. I wonder what happens after the two weeks are over? The virus goes away? [sure]

The county that my daughter and her family lives in, Marin County, has a population of 261,000 and has one confirmed case so far.
