As the ST mirror extenders will not fit the GT, does anyone know if anyone makes ones that will?

Hi All,

Wanted to share this for the UK riders mainly - I know this is an old thread,
I was outraged at the cost of the SW-Motech extensions and I also didn't know if I'd like them been extended 40mm either.

Decided to take matters into my own hands and design my own that fitted better and were to my liking.
I prefer 25mm extensions as I find its a good balance between looks and functionality - however 40mm gives priority on functionality.

Hope admin are ok with me sharing this, as its no means a commercial post just me sharing my enthusiasm and trying to share something quality without the huge price tag.
If you want to take a look my eBay account is "Tris1993" (same as on here) you should be able to find them easy enough on UK eBay by searching for them:

Mirror Extension / Extender for BMW F 800 GT 2013>Onwards - OEM Fitment

Or by searching for my username and then looking for my items for sale.
Hope this helps somebody who doesn't want to pay £50+ for them

Nice work. I purchased the police spec mirror extenders off BMW when I bought my bike, but they were about GBP90. Might have even been 90+VAT. They are metal, but these look a lot more wallet friendly even if plastic.

+1 for Tris's mirror extenders, I've fitted the 25mm versions, I tried the 40mm's but felt they were a bit wider than I wanted, but give an even better rear field of vision. The 25mm ones mean I can see beyond my elbows without having to do the 'check your rear view mirror' manoeuvre (that's a tricky French originating word to spell!!) so beloved of driving instructors and examiners!

Just one 'moan', but not really, is that it would be nice to have used torx bolts rather than hex head, but I can find some in due course... same issue with the Givi TankLock adapter fitted, they supplied Hex rather than Torx, very minor and does not detract at all from the functionality, very happy with them - Thank you Trix.

Does this forum have a Vendors section? Would be helpful for forum users who are able to offer specialist services like this.

Apologies for the dirty bike, I'm not much of a polisher :)

Hi Adrian,

Really appreciate your comments and pictures!
Funnily enough the fasteners are my gripe too but I can explain....[:D]

Its all thanks to ISO 14579 & DIN 912 which are the standards that commercially available Torx Head Cap Screws are made too,
On the M5 range they only go up to 60mm in length therefore I could supply the 25mm Extensions with Torx (they use 60mm bolts) however the 40mm version would still have to be supplied with Hex Heads as they're 75mm long.
By doing this these extensions would then not be uniform in there supply so I though better to supply them both equally to save any confusion on the buyers behalf of wondering why one size has Torx and the other Allen. Torx or Allen makes no difference on cost, its purely down to commercially available sizes.

However, having said that, the 25mm versions are much more popular and I also prefer that size too, as such I'm debating discontinuing the 40mm variant and offering only the 25mm version which I could then supply with the Torx fasteners to make its as OEM as possible.

A vendors section would be a great idea!
I'm currently working on a Throttle Lock (cruise control) to fit the F800GT so that will be my next offering, I find all the existing ones ugly, bulky or weird to use.
Also a vendors section would help members find other local members with a GS911 or similar should you ever need it!

Hi All,

Just a quick update from feedback received from you guys and gals'

On the 25mm variant I'm now supplying as standard with Torx fasteners.
As previously explained in detail unfortunately I can't supply the 40mm variant with Torx fasteners as the length of bolt required exceeds the sizes of the ISO & DIN standards they're manufactured to.
I've updated my listings accordingly to explain.

Hopefully anyone else interested will be pleased with this small revision I've made,

Thanks again to everyone for your continued support.

Regarding the throttle lock I was looking into, due to change of employment and a recently very busy life I haven't progressed further with this, however, its not off my radar and i do intend to move forward on it but I think in all realism it will be late autumn/winter until I can dedicate the time to do it.
