Hi, i just get me self a f800gt and start doing some work on it, im thinking about changin the stock exhaust and do i need to remap the bike after that? I was thinking on something giving him more power and still be efficiant on fuel. Do you guys know any good modificaton to the bike to make it better? planing as well on puting some extra spot lights, usb chargers and nav etc what best place to put small extra fuse box to have everything in one place? If any one can send me a workshop manual of the bike would be great :) Thanks for all the help.

If you want more power, you'll need a new motorcycle. Lots of threads on this topic. Simply, the setup of the engine and electronics are set for maximum efficiency and don't offer the ability for horsepower gains of any consequence. And, as many have discovered, really not necessary for the intended purpose of the GT.

Welcome, by the way! The GT is a great ride, enjoyed by many here on this forum.

You'll find our members have shared lots of information to install your gadgets too. Happy searching!

Welcome from Puget Sound! [WV]

I'm always amused by people on various forums who buy a bike, then want to get more power from it. If there was a magic cure, I think they'd all be using it. :)

FWIW, the bike will do 139 mph per the Michigan State Police. And I know it'll do 95 mph in 3rd gear. And you want more??? It might be better to invest in a S1000RR. It produces 199 hp and weighs about the same. :)

I can't offer any help on getting more power on the bike, but you'll find lots of help on the other modifications you mentioned.

I was fortunate to get a GT that the first owner modified a lot. If you decide to change out the windscreen, I recommend a Madstad. They are pricey, but you'll get smooth clean air flowing over you. The first owner also lowered the foot pegs and installed a bar riser. At 5'6" I'm still leaning forward, but not that much.

For auxiliary lights, I recommend looking at what ADVMonsters offers. They are priced reasonably, and work incredibly well.

As for the fuse box, it'll fit nicely under the center of the fake tank. There's a small place on the top of the air box that seems made for one.

Lastly, check out the "Hall of Wisdom" in the menu bar on the top of the page. Between that and YouTube, and asking for help here, you'll probably get all your questions answered.

And again, welcome!

I now understand your question about power.

Your previous K12 would have, I'd guess, more power but it also more weight just like my R1150RT. My own experience with both being the lower weight of the F8GT more or less cancels out the lower power output, call it power to weight ratio if you like.

I suggest that you wait until you've had some time to enjoy your new bike before looking into power increase. You might well find that you're happy with the current power output.

Ride safe and enjoy.

thans guys, bit of the up date from today, try to take the calipers of to take the forks to replace head bearing of coruse i broke one hex key and one of the bolts brake down soo i take me lovely time to drill it off etc, then clean up the forks from rust spots and check front wheel and calipers ect, now just wait for parts and find a spare bolt. About me Me name is Mariusz im from Poland but i live in uk and love riding me bikes. I try loads of bikes to find one i like and the clouser one was k1200gt i try few boxers but it have to much vibration and shakes on throtle and engine braking and i like smooth ride. I try zr1400 fjr1300 hayabysa etc but fel the weight all the time, and on k12 i put pegs on up position and still grind them on corners... cant wait to have a spin on f800

Looking like you've got a bit of work left to do, good work and keep at it you'll get there.

Winter riding in the UK can quickly take the shine of a bike due to the rock salt that the local authorities use to keep the roads free of ice. I find ACF50 a good product that helps to delay the onset of the corrosion.

I took my S in for service and got a new loaner for the day. Mind you, I thought my S was weary and weak and I was a bit disgusted with it. . .but it was still a means for transportation albeit rather doggedly.
My S has what I believe to be a remapped Remus Grand Prix exhaust. I have looked for aftermarket gear besides the Remus but cannot find any.
When I rode off on the loaner 800, I thought wow this is different - way different! When I got my bike back the next day I was rejoicing. My S is killer compared to that new dog.

Let me tell you boys I be playing! I have 40k on it but there is a lot of spunk left in Katusha. Now if only I could get the dang TPMs back online without paying the man to link them

Everyone has their preferences. I put on a GPR exhaust (Italian but available from the UK and very good value - I had a beautiful set on my TDM900 also). You do technically need to have the bike remapped, so I took the decision to really cure all the issues raised by other owners about the engine - especially the vibrations and "flat spot" mid range.

I went to a great dyno-tuner and he installed a Power Commander, mapped the bike with the new chip and exhaust ( he said he would need to redo if I took the baffle out - sounds amazing but a bit illegal to be honest). As I understand I get an extra 8 bhp at the rear wheel, but more importantly I get good mileage and the bike pulls evenly without vibration right throughout the rev range - it was not cheap but as I intended to keep this bike for quite a while I thought it was worth every cent. I am so happy on this bike and have done two Phillip Island Motogp rides with the greatest pleasure. If interested see Youtube BMW F800GT Mike Cummings for some footage. Re lights, I ordered Cyclops LEDs from the US (High and Low beam kits) and they are sensational - no extra lights needed. I hope this is helpful - as I say, every one has their own outlook on this, bit I have created pretty much the perfect F800GT for mid- to long-range touring. Cheers

Leo Vinci carbon fiber exhaust

I replaced my stock exhaust with a Leo Vinci carbon fiber exhaust a couple of years ago. No remap was needed. Bike runs great with no popping when you let off the throttle. Maybe got a couple of more horses, but I'm not able to tell. I was just looking for a little "better" exhaust note and I got it. It's certainly not too loud to upset any neighbors.😀

PS. I also put on a set of Weiser Technik driving lights and they are great (I think). Easy to install and they make your front turn signals white LED lights until you want turn signals. Then they are flash amber just like stock. I think it gives the light triangle look that some say helps cage drivers take notice. Basically you get a led light board that fits in your existing turn signal housing. No extra stuff to mount somewhere.

Well another up date. Replace head bearings and fit forks etc. Fit a extra fuse box on top of the battery as it fits just on fit. Now just need to find a bolts for calipers.... and start sorting out extra bits like lights horn usb nav etc. Today morning did some painting to check the colour i want on the bike and thats what i come up. What you guys think?

As the ex-owner of a '98 K1200RS and two '07 F800ST's, and now the owner of a '13 F800GT, your F800GT will never compare to the power, torque, and smoothness of a K1200RS/GT. It simply won't. And changing the exhaust will not provide a noticeable difference in power output, if any. What it will excel at is agility, handling, and braking, mostly thanks to its relatively light weight. The engine is very sufficient for real-world riding and will give you fantastic efficiency and reliability, at the cost of smoothness. The K1200RS/GT is a superior motorcycle for high-speed riding (100+ mph) but at real-world speeds, the F800GT is much more enjoyable and simply a better and more satisfying motorbike in my opinion.

I like the blue you chose!

hi, the color is a new BMW San Marino Blue I had it for a short spin today, as put suspension pack. I change the exhaust mainly for a sound as on the exhaust is just bad. F800gt is bit shorter and definitely not smooth, but needed to say didn't feel the lack of power for a commuting part, but definitely much lighter and have more agility than any sport/touring bikes I drive before unlucky feet a bit like a driving a scooter, but that's maybe because I did drive vfr800 in a morning so maybe because of that... well, will plan to drive it from tomorrow so will keep you guys updated. The heat seems to be a common issue on these bikes, seems like one of its biggest issues.

Some people have good results taping the vents on the plastic closed so heat doesn't escape towards your leg.

Looks like you picked up a police model f800gt, no wonder it wasn't well maintained :/

Really like that blue. I've got a white GT and also considerer going blue. Decided to stick to white for now, but maybe next year.
