GIVI windscreen

Just picked up a 2015 F 800 GT with 2100 miles on it. Does the GIVI touring screen give the best protection, long tours for me. If so does anyone have one to sell, if not, what windscreen is better.

Thanks, Mick

I have tried several screens (V-Stream, Ermax, BMW high) - but not the Givi. What I have found is that adding bigger screens creates a lot of turbulence at the top of the screen and it makes a lot of noise when it hits the helmet. Bigger windscreens also result in more heat from the vents down by your legs.

Using the MRA-X creen on top of the various screens improves the air flow and results in a quieter helmet noise. I just found what I believe may the the perfect setup for my 5'-8" tall and 30" inseam body. I am using the Ermax Sport screen with the MRA X-creen sport on top. It is the quietest ride I have found so far.........except the BMW high screen which more than twice as expensive (BMW high screen also needs the MRA X-creen to fix the turbulence).

I will likely cut is some additional vents at the bottom of the windscreen to get more air behind the windscreen and lesson the low pressure area that pulls the heat from the engine.....and reshaped the top of the windscreen to better match the MRA X-creen shape.

Thumpin...your comments about high screens and turbulence has also been my experience. In fact, I experimented with the stock screen with MRA deflector and found that the higher I placed the deflector, the more noise and turbulence I got.

I've also tried the VStream touring screen and found it too high. Plus it is affected by crosswinds.

So...(here we go again)...I just ordered the VStream "sport" shield for my GT. It's lower by 3" and because I find my RR with its short screen to be quieter than the GT and quite comfortable noise-wise, I figure a 15" shield on the GT might:)confused:) help. Get my head into smoother air.

We'll see.

Sure is a lot of money being spent on this bike...[:D]

My experience with my cut down stock screen and the MRA X-creen.....is that it pretty much emulates the stock screen without the MRA. I would be happy to mail the cut down stock screen for you to try.

A 26" screen (Ermax Sport) with the MRA has resolved my wind noise issues. (NOTE: Without the MRA.....the taller screens are not an improvement).

I think the Madstad idea is the way to go. If you look at the picture on their website, most of the air goes over the windscreen and away. But a significant amount goes under the windscreen. That second path for the air to move, gets rid of the back pressure and turbulence you'd get without the opening.

If you can find a windscreen that'll do that for you, you may have a solution.

In my case, I'm extremely happy with my Madstad.

Well, I gotta give the shorter screen a try, if only because the short screen on my RR gives me a pleasant ride. If it's no good, you'll hear about it.[:D] Also, I won't mount the MRA on top of it, for the very reasons you give, Thumpin...it would just duplicate the height I already have.

Welcome to the forum Mick....
My 2013 gt came with stock windscreen which was a nightmare, wind blast straight to chest/ head... Was the real thing I wanted to change, got the Givi screen with the deflectors that also takes wind away from your hands, it is amazing, I'm 5'8" and the wind goes straight over me......
Lots of people have to try some screens to get the one most suitable for them but I guess I was lucky....
Have had no problem with any turbulence or wind/helmet noise....
Cheers

Great, thanks. Which GIVI did you get and are the deflectors part of the screen or added on?
I am also adding the Suburban Machinery foot peg lowering kit.
In our New England Norton Owners club we have too many Mikes, so I am

Another large Madstad lover here. Before, I was pounded in the chest and head with wind. Could not turn my head on the highway to verify what the mirrors showed me. With the Madstad, I get much less wind which is great for highway and for cold weather riding down to about 20F with heated gloves. Not sure if there is more or less noise as I always wear foam plugs and pipe in a little music via the Scala Rider. Happy hunting for the right balance for you!

So, I decided to go with this, Givi D5109ST Windscreen; MRA X-creen Touring Bolt-On Variable Windscreen Spoiler Blade Windshield Extension ;GIVI MT505 Metro-T Tanklock Tank Bag | 5 Liters. I already had a GIVI top case so I just got a mount go it.

With this windscreen and the adjustable wing on top you can completely eliminate wind blast or direct a little or a lot, depending on the temperature. Lots of adjustments on this, it works.
I used a soldering iron to "dimple" the spot to drill the hole, a small pilot hole was next , then I used a frostner bit to drill the hole. I used a block of hardwood to press back against the drill on the back of the windscreen while drilling. very clean, sharp edge hole. easy installation after that.

Just fitted a clear Givi D5109ST myself and at 5'8" tall myself I'm really pleased with it. I was a bit dubious as I thought it would spoil the lines of the bike but being clear it doesn't. There is some wind noise but no big deal. I actually got sent a tinted D5109S (without the wings) by mistake which I tried but didn't like. The reason for that was another differance is its about 10cm shorter than the ST, so a bit noiser and a lot more turbulent, and being tinted it looked really nice in m opinion, but I found it a bit distracting in my line of sight when riding.

The standard screen drive a Force 8 gale straight at my chest and up my helmet.
The givi moves the draft up higher, bit of buffeting around my helmet but with enough air flow for the helmet vents to work and clear the visor.
I'm 6ft tall - if the screen was any bigger there would be no air flow round the helmet.
Wind pressure is much reduced, wind is deflected off my hands (along with rain) just fine.
In the uk, hot is 27C and the rain is frequent!!

Hi Mike, Are you trying to fit the bushings from original screen? They are too big, so you'd need to drill bigger holes in your Givi screen. You should use only 3x screws from the original shield + hardware that comes with the Givi. I used this instruction to install my D5109ST - look for the post "Givi-D5109ST-screen-fitment-I-did-it-my-way". I can't post links yet, sorry!

If your Givi screen came without mounting hardware ... contact Givi. They will supply spare parts.

I had no real difficulty fitting the Givi screen. It was just a little awakward lining things up. An extra pair of hands would have helped.
