I recently test road the 800ST at a dealership in Fredricksburg, VA. I love the bike. But..... the forward riding position is not for me. I ride an 1100RT. This bike is incredible for the size. The power and torque is awsome. It steers exactly where you tell it to go. Some have said it is not smooth at 70mph. But i almost forgot it had a 6th gear. It was smoother than my 1100 RT! My question is what kind of bar risers are out in the aftermarket? Who makes a set that will raise it up about 3 inches or so. Also who makes pegs that will bring my feet down and forward a bit. The bike has some dive, but what a ride! If this bike had an upright riding position it would be in driveway right now and we would not be dicussing this. If anyone has any info it would be great!
Have you checked out F800Depot.com? They have 2 or 3 bar risers for the F800. I'm not sure if they'll get you the 3 inches you want but it's worth looking at. A friend of mine has the Verholen(spelling?) bar risers and they are nice but once you do that you'll need a new windscreen, the stock one doesn't provide enough protection if you're fully upright. But that's according to my friend.
The MV Motorad riser will give you 2.75" They work very well, just bend over when it comes time to pay. Do a search, there is a plethora of information.
pgrinolds, do you have these risers? I think i found those on the riderdepot as someone else sugested. It was around $200. Well worth it to me. If i can find a good used ST i can justify a few extra $$$$ in the name of comfort. Thanks for the info. Ride safe. Oh yea, did you need to change the brake lines ?
Yes I installed them myself. No need to change the brake, line unless you have to have things perfect. I showed the install to my dealer, He said "That's the way we do it, looks good". You also can reroute the clutch cable to the other side of the steering head, but I didn't. Good Luck.
Chris, I have the MV risers, no have not changed the brake line - yet, there is enought clearance at the current setting. Actually I have the line extender (about 4") but the original line is still ok. Only issue is that I can't rotate the bars/mounts to a slghtly better position. And before anyone asks - have been unable to 'break' the original fitting loose to put the extension on myself - must have been tightened by a large Teutonic gentleman - or else I'm totally weak and puny[B)]
FWIW, there are several makes of risers/barbacks around, not sure if any will go 3" though, I think that the MVs are maximum of 2.75..........
I bought some adjustable bar risers from the dealership, but found out afterwards they were discontinued. Recently found out why - when I had my bike in for recalls, I had requested them to drop them back about an inch. Well, they couldn't do it because that covers the bolts that need to be tightened...err...so much for the advertised adjustability......oh well, the upright position isn't bad so I am good.
