Seat part number?

I am trying to verify that I have the correct seat on my bike; I've been having some comfort and fit 'second thoughts' one month in to the ST (but I still love it) and I want to make sure that I have the right seat installed.

When I went for my first test ride at the dealer, the salesman popped the seat off and said "this is the lower seat, you don't want that" and went inside to change it out from another bike, so I know there was some "mix and match" happening.

I've found the BMW part numbers for the various seats but cannot find the same numbers on the seat itself:

52537697375 bench seat, black
52537697377 seat bench, low, black
52537711714 bench seat, black, extra-low

The only numbers on the my seat are:

PURPLAST 163609-10
GMPU< 767B 600

...any ideas?

I just pulled my lower seat off my bike and I only have the manufactured date stamped on it. Unfortunately, my standard seat is too high for me to reach right now and am at the mercy of my dad to pull it down for me from the shelf.

I do have both seats - lower and standard if you would like to meet and compare them to yours. I am in Renton so I am about 15 minutes away from Bellevue.

We could meet one day this week if you like. PM me if you are interested.

What are your specific comfort problems?

The main problem is that I tend to end up all the way forward on the seat and constantly having to scoot myself back to the middle of the saddle. It's especially painful when going downhill for long distances...

When I wear my overpants the forward creep problem goes away and it is exceedingly comfortable. Maybe the bike is telling me "ATGATT"?

I had similar questions after I got my bike home... the salesman and I had discussed the different seats and I thought I had ordered the lower seat. I wound up with the standard seat and on my next visit to the dealer I checked out all the seats.

If you go to the F800Depot.com you can see all 3 seats... the extra low is rather obvious by it's design and the standard seat is the only one with the rectangular indent on each side. If you open the picture in the larger window you can see the indentation located around the inside of where your thigh would be.

I have the standard seat. Hmm. Guess I need to wait for someone to make a big/tall seat (even though I'm not big/tall).

You could have Rich's Custom seats, uhm, add a bit more to have a craddle affect. And/or you can borrow my lower seat for a spell and see if that fits you better? I can ride with both seats, but am more comfortable on the lower one.

Looks like I can throw a rock in your neighborhood, so If you would like to check it out, no problem. The seats are about $300, so it would be good if you demo'd the lower seat before you do any modfications.

I too find myself more at the front on my lower seat and end up scooting back, however, I think it is more me hanging on than anything because when I think about it, I stay put.

I just pulled my seat to have a look too. I have the same numbers stamped on it as you do, four12. Mine is the standard seat. Strange that the numbers don't match the BMW part numbers.

I cured most of my forward sliding by backing off the spring preload a couple of clicks. BMW says 12 clicks tight for 180 pounds; I'm 155 and backed it off to 8 or 9 clicks. It seems to have leveled off the seat a bit and rides and handles fine.

ps: I'm thinking about a little ride up to Seatlle this September to get Rich to work on my seat. It's good for 400+ miles a day- but day after day I start to get sore.

Rich's rocks. You can also send the seat in as long as you take pictures and fill out their form in regards to measurements and hot spots.

I think you already tumbled on the big 'secret' for not sliding around - real live motorcycle pants vice jeans - plus what SHU said about shock adjustments. Lotta money to spend for a fancy seat that you may not really need after all.................

but bottom line will be your overall comfort.

Yep! comfort +1

I think I slide forward because I like to lean down (trying to break this habit). Once I realize I am doing it and skootch back, I stay put until I lean down again.
