Bought a bottle of touch up paint off amazon, it stated that was Blue 749 and guess what it doesn't match, it's too light a shade.

Just wondering of anyone has had any luck buying a small bottle of 749 Blue which is a good match?

I had to try several times to find a match for the "Night Blue Metallic" on my 2009. I had the best luck with touchupdirect.com, but even they sent me the wrong color the first time (but quickly made good on the mistake and did not charge for the second round).

I've spoken to a very helpful bike paint specialist here in the UK today who is certain that it is in fact paint code 428, he's sending me small bottle in the post which should be with me on Wednesday, if it's a good match I'll post details of the paint and supplier.

BMW Blau 428 is the correct code despite it saying 749 under the seat.

So if you have a bike this colour hope this helps

Another problem with the under-seat code, besides the obvious notion that seats can be swapped easily, is that some bikes undergo color-change surgery before they leave the dealer. My friend bought a used '09 ST that is Champagne Metallic. When his local dealer (not the one that sold the bike) ran his VIN, it came back Night Blue Metallic. The original selling dealer swapped all the Tupperware.-dan

The paint code on my bike is on the frame but hidden by the seat, apparently 749 is the paint scheme and not the actual paint code.

I'm beginning to think this isn't uncommon. I was considering a new '14 F700GS a few weeks ago and the dealer's first words were, "if you don't like the blue, don't worry -- we will swap the body panels and make this into a silver bike. We do it all the time." That was a bit disturbing.

Thanks for the info Carlos! My '07 has been, er, 'dropped' a few times by the previous on, of all places, the Nurburgring! Soooo, some fairly well scratched panels then. Could do with some TLC on both lower fairings as a result. Was even thinking of a vinyl wrap. Sort of alternating hi-viz yellow squares over the blue? if you get my drift..... I've already got the jacket...
