Riding home from work on my 2016 GT a few days ago my left turn signal randomly came on. Sitting in traffic I messed with the switch and it went out and the signals worked normally. It worked fine for a couple of days but on my way home today the same thing happened. By the time I got home the right signal worked properly and the left signal didn't work at all. If I put on the hazard lights all of the lights work properly. I am thinking turn signal switch needs to be replaced. Is there anything else anyone can think of that could cause this issue? Thought I would ask before ordering a new switch. Thanks.

Try cleaning your switch contacts with electrical contact cleaner or denatured alcohol.

I will try that in the morning,
luckily the forecast is for snow over the weekend so I may have a few days to work on this.

Isn't that bike still under warranty? I have a the same year and my warranty doesn't expire until 9/20. I just had a weeping countershaft seal replaced under warranty and they even delivered the bike to my house!

I bought it used. Haven't checked on the warranty.

Your bike has a transferable three-year, 36,000-mile warranty. Bring it to any dealer and have them take care of it.

When the hazard warning light switch stopped working on my 13 GT, I set about dismantling the switch unit and found that the switches are sealed units mounted on a circuit board. I'm not sure about the turn signals but be prepared for some intricate work to fix the problem.

I managed to get the hazard switch working after some careful disassembly and re-assembly. Make notes/take photos as you go so you can get everything back together again.

Update: I took apart the assembly and there are indeed sealed units attached to a circuit board. I sprayed some contact cleaner on them to make sure that moving parts were not gummed up but that didn't fix the problem. This morning I took it to my local (30 miles away) dealer. The switch is bad. They ordered a new one and it will be replaced under warranty. Thanks all for the information.

This is a known issue: originally fitted switch assemblies (both left and right) are not of the best quality. These should be replaced free of charge by any BMW dealer.

I had read about the switch unit quality but wasn't confident that BMW would replace it on 5 year old bike.

Has anyone in the UK had a switch assembly replaced when the bike is out of warranty?

Stuart, it was a recall, not a warranty issue. BMW will replace the switches on a 5-year old bike free of charge if they've not yet been replaced.

Any information about the recall order would be helpful. My left switch assembly has started to act up. I am still under warranty, but would like to be prepared and informed if something else comes up later.

My info button started to stick in the down position. Not ideal.

Contact your nearest BMW dealer. They should know of this problem and will replace the switch assembly at no charge.

There was also a problem with the button cluster on the right side (I know the starter button was one of the issues). You may want to ask them to check if that cluster needs to be replaced too.
