The 2018 GT I ordered from an out of state dealer was shipped on Valentine's Day and arrived here this morning, just 13 days later. Shipper was HaulBikes.com and they did an awesome job...highly recommend.

Installed a Kaoko throttle lock I had left over from my '16 GT. New bike needs to be ridden! Only 5 miles on the ODO. Am ordering an OEM tinted windscreen, too.

    It's a beautiful bike!

Congratulations, I guess. Had you worn out the '16 GT or was the ashtray full?

LOL! No full ashtray. But since you asked, I'll give you the full story. When the '14 HP4 I bought (new) turned out to be defective and used a quart of oil every 700 miles, I got my dealer to take BMW to task and give me an incentive to trade it for a '15 RR, which they did. The only RR available was the red model. I am not a fan of red, but I needed the RR to take advantage of the incentive. Then I added, a year later, a '16 GT in bronze metallic/sapphire black...a great bike. However, that red RR was really "not me", as funny as that may sound, and when the '17 RR's came out, I traded both the GT and the red RR for a new Motorsport-color RR. The '17 was a HUGE improvement over the '15 and way better than the HP4. Its euro4 tuning gave it an incredibly smooth motor. I put almost 9000 miles on it right away and have no desire to let it go for the new "improved" RR coming out this year. So...bottom line: I missed the GT and when I saw the '18 in Black Storm metallic, and knowing it now had ride-by-wire and ride modes, I made an offer on one, and the offer was accepted. The rest is history. I will be keeping both the '17 RR and this '18 GT for some time; it's worth noting that both these bikes are "last of breed", especially the GT. The RR in '19 has symmetrical headlines, so it looks like any other (Yamaha) bike, a weird taillight configuration that is causing some dissent among the faithful, and an overall strange (to me) look.

Sorry to be long-winded, but your question was a good one and deserved a reasonable answer. I hope I succeeded.

I was just out in the garage adjusting preload on the bike and really noticed, for the first time, the gold specks embedded in the black paint...really nice.

    Happy camper!

When I go out in the garage, I have these wonderful brown specs scattered on my white paint. Mine washes off...some day when the weather gets above freezing.

My 80/7 had gold flecks in the brown paint but i changed that to Black and matched a Ural sidecar to that with the pinstriping in white.
My Wee Strom had neat blue sparkles in the black until I crashed the crap out of it and painted it Barstow Beige.
Some paint jobs really make a bike.
Several friends have had engine problems with the RR and the 1200GS, one got the engine rebuilt and the GS got a new bike. Some little problems with QC?
My, how the brand has gone down hill.
But as your GT makes you happy, my ST was a real keeper until a deer killed it. Dang.
Many miles and smiles to you!

Nice day for a second ride on the new GT, if a little chilly (38 degrees at the top of the hill...42 down lower). The Black Storm Metallic paint was finally seen in sunshine...it's really nice.

Bike is agile, if a little less powerful () than the RR, but comfort-wise it's terrific. I tried my old Shoei Multitec helmet instead of the RF 1200 I usually use, and while it's a decent touring helmet (flip-up is nice), it's noisier by a fair amount.

Have a BMW tinted screen coming, which will make this bike really look good, I think.

Oh...and this bike came with Michelin Road 5 tires...they seem very nice, handling is great, they're sticky and comfortable. Look forward to some good mileage out of them.

Anyway...glad I'm back in the GT camp...photo from today attached:

+1 on Haulbikes. I've used them several times and have always been delighted with their service.

I can't disprove that until after I've broken it in, but we'll see. One benefit of the black color, especially with panniers attached, is people in front of me in their cars can't tell if I'm a cop or not, so they slow down. I wave as I pass them.

    Congratulations.

I switched to the Michelin RP 4's on mine, made the bike feel much livelier, in a good way, and way more planted in bends... though I'm 6,000 miles on them now, so worn and a bit squared off, hmmm, might need some new ones.

Think I'm envious... I've never had the luxury of being able to switch bikes so frequently and mostly had much older/used bikes, the GT is my first 'almost new to me' bike in 37 years of riding, must be great
