Where can I find OEM cases and appropriate hardware? Only dealer? Found top case on Amazon but no side case. When I Google search only aftermarket results.

would a larger BMW bike OEM top case fit the F800GT? as in, do they share the same mounting design for their racks? I find the F800GT's oem top case too small, and I wonder if that of their bigger R or K brothers would fit the same on the GT

The big 49L top case from the R and K bikes will NOT fit the rack on the F800GT.

But of course, the small 28L top case from the F800GT WILL fit the R and K bikes. Go figure.

If you want the OEM cases, I'd suggest ordering from your BMW dealer.

You can always go with aftermarket solutions. I have a Givi 46L top case, and SW-Motech Trax 37L side cases.

Interesting why the smaller one can fit all but the bigger one can only fit the bigger bikes. Oh well...

Have the BMW side cases (best option in my opinion) and Givi topcase on my GT. Great combination.

Totally agree, top boxes can be any generic type to suit but side panniers really need to be Bmw

    +1

My setup too. In fact my BMW topbox resides in the shed and will be up for sale when I get home next month (travel restrictions allowing !).

Okay...I'll stick up for the non-BMW cases.

My SW-Motech Trax 37L aluminum cases look more like they belong on a GS, but strangely enough...I have gotten more compliments on my GT with them on there, than all my previous bikes combined. I suppose it could be the Madstad windshield that is the cause of the compliments though.

I like the look of the BMW side cases, but not enough to want to change. The first owner of the bike did a lot of research determining what were the best mods for touring, and then installed them. The aluminum cases aren't "normal", but they work extremely well. They open from the top...nothing falls out on the ground when you're searching for a pair of gloves in the rain or cold. They are waterproof, as I've been testing them for a couple years now and never got a leak. And you can attach brackets to the outside that'll carry things like extra fuel containers or first aid kit. And if you do a "stop and drop", they'll keep the bike from being damaged.

I always thought of them as acting like barn doors out in the wind, but surprisingly enough, when I rode recently with another GT owner, we got the same gas mileage.

And...if you decide to buy another bike later, you can take them with you. Try that with the BMW side cases.

If I was forced to buy another bike it would be another F800GT.

Yeah same here...and I'd put those same cases on my "new" GT.

They also carry another 10L each.

I have the BMW side and 28 liter to case - they are small and adequate for solo trips. The 28 liter top box is nice for local rides but too small when riding double on trips.....and larger Givi box would be better.

The larger BMW 49 liter box does not fit on the F800 rack - and it is likely would look overly larger on the bike. It might even be so large as to cause handling issues at speed, as it might catch too much wind. It is very wide and squarish!

I have the BMW side cases. Also, with a Givi Monokey universal plate, I use a Givi Monokey top box [about 30 litres --- no longer in production] stand alone for day rides, or a 20 year old Givi Maxia 50 litre top box together with BMW side cases for touring. The 50 litre does look a bit large but works well and I have had no handling issues with it on two GT's and an earlier ST.

Why do you say the side cases need to be BMW?
I removed the BMW side rack and use the GIVI side panniers and top case on my 2015 F800GT. No loss of room for may passanger and they (side cases) are larger.

Have the BMW sidecases, they areas on and off using the ignition key. Have tried different configurations with packing them but best so far has been to use an IKEA backpack. Keeps everything in place and usually can stuff a few odds n ends around them if needed. On a long trip sometimes I camp and sometimes stay in a room or cabin. Tent and associated stuff in duffle bag on top. I can pitch tent and then pull side cases off and take them in the tent. Packing up is in reverse. Nice when it raining. Have stuffed them full and ridden thru daylong rain and intense showers with no water inside. Only thing I don't like is the outside scuffs too easily.

About 10 years ago I got these liners for my 1200RT. Very high quality, strong zippers and material. I sold the RT but I still use these on my GT with the GIVI top case and panniers. They are sold for specific models but can be used on other models. Good stuff!
I have put only around 1000 miles on the GT since buying it late last fall. I took one 250 mile ride from home to ride around Lake Winnapasauke, in NH. I have a sheepskin seat cover and the bike came with a Sargent low comfort seat. The GT hadles much better than the 1200 RT, and the weight difference is very noticeable. I think I am going to put many miles on the GT. Retired, in my 70's, not slowing down.
One complaint, the speedometer seems to be off, at one point the needle was pointing to 100, can't be!

Yes it is the 28L. Unfortunately, I am halfway around the other side of the world at the moment and don't think there is actually much chance of getting home next month. The way things look, this year's bike season might be over before I do !

Have to agree with those who prefer the OEM side cases and aftermarket top case.
I have a SHAD top that I've used for a few years when, but only when needed.
I just got the side cases and haven't taken them off once. I use them all the time to carry stuff hold my helmet, etc.
Being keyed alike is really handy too. I even found that 12 L duffle bags ($12 on Amazon) make great liners.
Still getting used to my heal catching on them when dismounting.

I must admit I do like the shad top box I have. I never bother locking it, it’s just push a button then squeeze a lever and open! very convenient.
