It's not specific BMW, sometimes it's called the "Hella" plug. Sure, you can plug in a USB adapter, if you can find one with this connection.

There are TONS of options out there for a USB adapter to plug into that port. Do an amazon or ebay search for Hella Din USB charger. A word of caution, if you use one that has a voltage readout or led lighting, it 'may' keep the socket alive when the bike is turned off so be sure to unplug it to prevent an unnecessary battery drain.

Thanks for the info, yes I see there are a number of "Hella" type plug options ,. Just so I'm clear the Auxiliary electrical outlet is off with the key, or stays on when the key is off,,.
    Thanks,,.

It should power down about a minute or so after turning the key off. There are cases where it can get stuck on, but it's usually related to what is plugged in pulling a small current and tricking the computer into thinking the BMW charger is hooked up, hence it staying active. I just make sure to not leave anything plugged in if I'm not riding, better safe than sorry.

If the amps drawn are less than ~1A it turns off after one minute. If more than ~1A it stays on for 10 minutes. I guess this allows to connect a battery charger.

I use an USB charger (phone+GPS). I can see from the little blue LED in the charger that indeed the power for the outlet IS shutoff after one minute.

There is also a connector under the top cover next to the battery to plug-in for example a GPS.

Both accessory outlets are limited to 5A (electronic fuse).

Picked up one of these, Dual USB Charger Power Adapter Socket with amp readout,.
Thanks for the heads up,,. I will keep an eye on it,,. I assume if the led goes out after a minute or so with the key off its not drawing?
