Hi all, I am new to the BMW scene, in my later 50's and have been back riding motor cycles for the last couple of years after a break of nearly 20 years away. This is going to sound a little weird, but I have just moved from a 2018 Harley-Davidson Breakout 114 (sold due to a separation) to my "new" 2018 F800R.
Got to say I am loving my new BMW. Had been mainly commuting to work on the bike and the BMW is so much better for that, and to be frank, a much more comfortable ride in general. Don't get me wrong, I love/d the HD experience (had always wanted to own one), but it really didn't suit as an every day ride.
I have been unable to help myself shopping for extras on the F800R. Just got a Givi screen and hand guards delivered from Italy, and got an OK (for the price) $70 AUD top box from Amazon. Be keen to hear any recommendations for kitting the bike out for taller riders, and what there is available for the bike, as I am 6'3". Find the riding position etc OK, but I think it could be improved. Also keen to find any locals for the odd group ride, if there are any in the area.
    Here is my new girl.

Welcome from Puget Sound! I think you'll love your new R model.

Do us all a favor please...and fill in your location in your profile. For all we know, you live in Italy. And I suspect that's not the case.

Welcome, Mark! Frankston, eh? I probably go past your front door a couple of times a week....
Love your R's colour scheme, on a whim I just bought some red wheel tape last week to put on my new black GT, nice to know what it will look like when I get around to applying it...
Enjoy this forum, I reckon it is one of the best bikesites of all time.
Cheers, Ian A (Brighton and Warneet)

Welcome, Mark. Nice colour scheme. (I can see why Ian bought red rim tape.)

I noticed the hand guards. I'm pretty sure there has been a few posts on the challenge of finding guards that don't bump up against the instrument panel. If the handlebars still have full travel, post the details of your purchase. Others may benefit.

G'day from coastal NSW, Mark. A part of the world where one can ride all year round without getting too cold. I've had 2015 F800R since new and they are a very under-rated bike. I'll be heading down your way end of February next year for the World Superbikes at Phillip Island.

Hi Andrew, they are Givi brand. Specifically for the F 800, no interference with anything.

Givi model HP5118 - Hand Protector. I live in Australia, but ordered from a site in Italy, came in a week, they were around $120 AUD, though shipping was $80 AUD, so I ordered a few extra things to make it worth while.

G'Day Mark, I'm from the south coast NSW about 100km south of Padaek. Great to hear you are enjoying the f800. I've had mine for 6 months and enjoyed the 6500km on it !!

We haven't gone for that coffee yet, Dom. I've had a shite six months looking after my father. He's in a better place now. 2020 looks promising.

Greetings, and congrats on the new ride. I was going to suggest some aftermarket exhaust, but your existing exhaust looks good.
Damn, that's a nice looking ride you got there.

G'Day Jurgen, I thought you must have had other things on your mind. Will get back to you in the new year.
Cafe's are getting busy down this way and will be that way until after Australia Day.
It's a pity Mark and other F800 riders are so far apart for a coffee meet up. Dom
