    Totally 100% agree. I fitted my Remus slip on for style and to save (a lot of) weight. The sound is deeper but certainly not offensive. On my older bikes I have found amazing differences in power, sound and weight. The biggest difference was on a 1950s British V twin. Just changing the silencer added 10 BHP at the rear wheel. By adjusting jetting it came to 15 BHP. That equates to over 25% increase. The noise difference was noticeable but not offensive. I also obtained better mid range roll on throttle response which equates to torque.

    To whose ears? That great blat of exhaust may be music to your ears but why does everyone else have to know your motor is running?

    I wish I knew what the first owner had done to my bike. Some of the things are obvious, like lowered foot pegs and bar risers. But I suspect his friend that worked on the bike did something to the exhaust because it sounds very nice, yet looks OEM. A friend who had a GT listened to mine and commented that if his had sounded like that, he wouldn't have spent the $$$ for an aftermarket exhaust.

    Well actually to most. My wife has even commented that it is a bit deeper sonance and not objectionable . I always temper the throttle in residential areas
    and run in a higher gear to minimise noise. IMHO nothing compares to the noise of a 450-500cc single dirt bike and aftermarket pipes with regards to offence. They are just
    painful.

    I just sent a link to the YouTube video of the chase scene in Bullet to my son-in-law yesterday. Louder exhausts don't have to be objectionable. And mine on my GT, isn't as quiet as most, but has a pleasant deep sound.

    It's the straight pipes, or similar that I find objectionable...that and the rider who goes back and forth, back and forth about a mile from my place that I can hear clearly on a summer evening.

    Oh man, the chase scene in Bullitt. One of my all time favorites.
    I sure wish I could drive like Bill Hickman. Or even as good as McQueen.

    This is a very fair point. I have an aftermarket can much louder than stock it is within noise limits for the UK but not the rest of the EU. I fitted it for one reason, to get me heard in traffic you can have all the hi viz kit and aux lighting in the world but if somebody does not look they will not see you, sound on the other hand seems to permeate better. I came to this conclusion when traffic filtering (lane splitting) on a stretch of four lane UK motorway, traffic was stop/start doing max 10 mph, rider approached from my rear on a modern triumph with a loud exhaust, he was just announcing his prescience well before his arrival. Not suggesting it's an alternative to safe ridding but I think it can make a difference. I'm a little embarrassed as to how antisocial it is but concerns about my safety take priority.
