Greetings all! I've now gone "all in" on the F800GT with 2 of them, one here in the States (Ginger), the other (Mia) stored in Heidelberg, Germany for extended European travel. Been riding for 40+ years, and our recent travel bikes in the states were 2 R1200GSs, both great, but after 100k, I decided I wanted something lighter and the GT fit the bill. After shipping Mia to Germany in Feb 18, and riding her around the Alps this past summer for 3300 miles, I came home and bought Ginger.

Really happy with the decision, and looking forward to participating here.

    Ciao!

    Mike

    Cool! Welcome from Puget Sound!

Where are you located in the USA? I think you can put two locations in your profile and make us all jealous.

I ride with some great people who have ST1300s and Concours C14. Those bikes are awesome and I wouldn't mind owning either...but not enough to put up with the weight. My GT has taken me all over and been the best bike I've ever owned.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. To answer a few questions, I'm in Tucson, AZ and that's where Ginger is. Mia is stored in Heidelberg, Germany for annual European trips.

Yes, I just did a 4 day trip thru Anza-Borrego to kick off the new year right; a fun ride. Slab City, too.

Exporting a BMW to Germany is a bit like taking coals to Newcastle!

    Enjoy the bikes.

Perhaps, but without a permanent address in Europe it is difficult to register a bike as a US citizen. I found a "motorcycle bed and breakfast" in Heidelberg that stores about 200 bikes, has rooms to rent for arrival and departure, a small workshop on prem, and can provide Green Card insurance for the time you ride. So you ship a US plated bike over, store it there, turn the insurance on and off when you need it. Part of my 10 year "ride Europe" plan, and I go back for "year 2" this summer. Can't wait!

I've a pair of friends that kept an older Air Head in Germany and went over for a few weeks each summer for a gallivant around the continent.
Sounds fabulous for those of us that can't!
After many years of doing so they've decided it's time to see America. What they save on airfare should buy a lot of gas!
