On Saturday I visited Calmoto, a BMW shop in Livermore, CA and they had a 1928 (or is it a '29) BMW R2 on display. Naturally I took photos.

I have no idea why some of the photos are laying on their side. They are not like that in my computer files.

When you're 90YO you are entitled to have a little laydown occasionally...

There's some beautiful metal work and engineering. Could be a piece of art.
    Concrete remains undefeated.

Could be a piece of art? it is a piece of art! Don't know that i'd want to take on a cross country trip with today's riding styles in mind. Love those paint jobs that look a foot deep.
Hard to get that from a rattle can though I've tried.

I thought the BMW R2 was a single cylinder motorbicycle.

After doing some research, I think that motorcycle is an R52. Either the plaque was incorrect or my memory of what it said is.

    Sounds about right, Richard.

Those old BMWs were pretty fast, for their day.

After doing some of my own research, the only additional information I can add to that is that 4,377 R52's were produced during those two years, before the model transitioned into the 18hp 745cc R62.
