Has anyone seen the 800 cc motor in the F800GT punched out to 850 cc? If so what were the benefits or penalties? I understand that's all BMW did with their F850GS.

    Thanks,

    Chuckersconnie

The 850 is a completely new engine.

And now BMW has a 900cc version for two new models. I wonder if that engine will completely replace the 850cc engine within a year or two? Such rapid changes from BMW are a little confusing.

Aside from being a parallel twin, the 750/850 platform is completely different from the 700/800 platform. The 900 is a punched out 750/850 but with a different tune. Going back a ways, I think the Nuda 900 was actually a punched out 800, so anything is possible, especially with engines and machinists.
