I got to ride a buddies R1100S it's a great bike. It came in a few really nice looking iterations. Don't know that saddle bags make sense on the Boxer Cup livery though.
First, and only, BMW I ever fell in lust with was a bright yellow R1100S. A photo is my screensaver on my computer and I see it ever day. Wish I could figure out how to get it on this thread so I could show it off. <sigh>
I took a Reg Pridmore CLASS track school on my R1100S. It was held at Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin. Rode the S there, removed the bags, spent 6 hours in heaven, put the bags back on and rode home. Great comfortable do-all bike.
Can anyone remember this: about 20 or so years ago there were two guys who rode R1100Ss around the country (world?) and wrote a daily blog about their travels. That blog was probably the most important factor in getting me interested in motorcycle touring. I never owned a BMW back then ($$$) but I did set out to ride in all 48 states, several times on different bikes. I did not write a blog but did write a book for my grandkids.
Are you thinking of Ewan MacGregor and Charlie Boorman's Long Way Round series? Many of the episodes should be on YouTube, but I suspect that they get uploaded, then taken down due to copyright issues. Here is the trailer: .
The videos are much better than the book, which illustrates that neither one is really a writer. The first few episodes are a little slow, but once they get into eastern Europe, it just gets more and more interesting. They were riding GS1100 boxers, which were really too big and heavy for the routes they took across Russia and Central Asia - they spend a lot of time falling down.
They’re just dripping with sex.
If I were 20yrs younger i’d Have one.
In a heartbeat.
