So I went riding with a friend, and we stopped for a pee break.
When my friend came back his battery was down enough where it wouldn't turn over.
I told him to roll it a bit and it started up and we were able to get home.

I do wonder though. Not having jumper cables, do I have the option of removing my battery throwing it in his, and starting it up. His bike is an old honda, no electronics what soever. However would there be any ECU issues on my bike from doing that? This is assuming that I basically swap batteries with him while mine is running in order for him to get home and for me to charge his battery if his wasn't starting at all?)

Would the stator be able to keep the engine running without the battery connected?
    I've got an F800.
I'm wondering if anyone has attempted it.

My understanding is that you never disconnect a battery from an engine running an alternator. The battery helps keep the charging output stable and without it you're likely to damage it the R/R or the ECU/ZFE/etc severely enough to leave your bike stranded. Bikes with generators or magnetos can usually get away with this, alternators can not.
The less serious issue you'll have (at least my GS did) is that when the battery is pulled for any length of time I'd lose all my saved values, like trip odo, ave speed/mph/etc and the service reminder light would trigger.

I'd say the ECU would see the broken circuit (battery out) and shut down.
    Concrete remains undefeated.

I purchased one of those jump packs from Costco several years ago. My first use was to jump someone else's bike.

With the horror stories of good intentioned people frying their own good cars by jumping someone's dead car, this is cheap insurance. And it comes with the cables you need as well.

I have a Corolla for a car, which doesn't care if the battery is in it or not, but the bike being a bmw, I'm not sure, I figured I'd ask before. I have been keeping a Noco battery jumper in my cart on amazon. Perhaps that might be a good choice to keep in the topcase.

    lol, "for a car"
