Hi all. Jim from Boise, Idaho here. I picked up a 2009 F650GS about a year ago. Been through a lot of bikes through the years. Hoping this one will keep me happy with only one bike. So far so good, but I need to undo some things the previous owner did...

Welcome, Jim. I own a 2009 F650GS that was made in June 2008. I love riding the bike and the only problems that I have had with it are two pulsating front disc brakes that needed to be replaced, the throttle response is quite abrupt off closed throttle, even with the installation of a Booster Plug, and the gearbox is "notchy", which hasn't improved after riding the "650" for 45K miles.

Richard, my bike has a nasty pulsation in the front brake as well. Did you need to replace the rotor twice? Is there some sort of recall by any chance? Thought I saw something a few months ago.

No recall of the disc that I know of. I think there might have been a recall for the disc screws, but I am not sure that applied to the "650". I didn't replace the first front disc with a OEM disc due to the expense of the BMW part. I tried a Bike Master disc, which lasted for about 10K miles before it started pulsating. The disc that I have on my bike now is an EBC brand and that seems to be hanging in there so far. I am also using EBC pads, which I installed at the same time as the disc, as the BMW pads are worth their weight in gold and I don't need gold brake pads.

This is the 09 F650GS I bought in June. I noticed the same pulsing front brake when I first started riding. I don't have a chance to ride alot, mostly just commuting to work. It seems like the pulsing has gone away the last couple of months. I understand the term inmates now

Hi, I would think maybe you have some foreign substance on your brake pads and disc.
I would remove your brake pads, in your laundry tub, get some dishwashing liquid rub braking surfaces together until all the oily grime is washed off.
Once clean dry thoroughly and then get some brake cleaner and a clean white rag, and clean the brake disc until no more dirt comes off it, may take 3 cleans.
Then re-assemble, they same works 100% for squeaking brakes, on cars and push bikes.
    Good luck
