I have an F800ST 2010 that has a melted kinda boiled instrument cluster. I was thinking maybe my windshield magnified the sunlight while it was parked and displayed outside the dealership where I bought it. I did notice on another F800ST in that lot it had the same melted plastic on the same spot in the cluster.the other bike did not have a V stream windshield it was stock. Maybe the glass on the dealership magnified the sun aimed at the bikes? If anyone has thoughts on what could have caused this please do share.
There have been similar reports in the past. Typically the sun shines from behind the bike on the inside of the shield and is focused down on to the instruments.
My screen had odd looking dots on it. Like acid marks. I think i have worked out that brake fluid at some stage has leaked and somehow got onto it. Might be what melted your cluster a leak from the brake flid reservoir blowing onto it. Just a thought.
There's a particular windshield manufacturer...I don't remember which, but it is probably this one...who is known to have a problem with this. It's the nature of the windshield, and brake fluid has nothing to do with it. The sun, and the optics of the windshield are the causes.
V STREAM maybe ? I can see how that would happen. It is a serious hunk of plastic. I do love it though. I saw the same melting on an st with stock windscreen when I bought mine like that though.
