Hi guys, I've got a late 2017 f800 gt. How do you reset / adjust the service reminder date? It's been serviced by an independent mechanic, but the bike is still telling me service is due next month.

Stop by my house and I'll reset the service reminder for free.

I was on good terms with my dealer while I had the bike and they would reset it for free. Guys with the 911's can reset it. The home mechanics can enter up to 10 vehicle numbers and the pro models can do probably infinite numbers of vehicle ID's.
So being a good guy and helping is limited.
That was my understanding when Norm and I worked on our bikes.

If you don't have access to a GS-911 device, or something similar, you could just place a piece of electrical tape over the service reminder icon and ignore it. If you go to a BMW motorcycle dealer they will likely charge you for at least 30 minutes of labor to reset the service reminder - if they are willing to do it at all.

That's why I offered to reset it for free, since I do have a GS-911. Free is better than a labor charge at the dealership.
But his profile doesn't say where he lives, so that may not work.

I use Motoscan app. 911 is ridiculously expensive for someone that would pose this question. No offense but if you ask something like this, paying for a 911 won't get you more than the app.

Thanks for the advice. What is required to hook up your phone or tablet to the bike? I have a 2009 F650GS (twin)
-
When I had my F700GS I got all my services at our local bike mechanic/service shop, not a licensed BMW service centre. They reset the reminder each time no drama. Maybe just find a different service centre who can do it.

You'll need a genuine OBD Link device and the Moto scan app. You'll need to purchase the 1st license level on Motoscan to be able to reset your service reminder. You may also need a round to trapezoid adaptor cable if your bike has the round BMW service connector.
-
I just got the MotoScan setup a few months ago. In totally, it'll run you about $130ish if you have an Android phone or tablet already. If not, then you'll have to add the cost of one of those device.
-
You can also look for a used GS-911, which will probably run about the same price. I bought mine from a co-worker for $100. He had a GS and had traded for a KTM. He didn't need it any more and made me a good deal.
The new BMWs use the newer GS-911, so you might find one by posting on a forum like BMW MOA. if you don't want to stay a member, just sign up for the three-month trial membership.

Now there's an offer... Chris, mine needs updating, might have to book a flight from the UK and do a trip across the states, which on my list of things to do

I originally had though the Service Reminder was going to be a constant irritant to me.........as it turns out they are pretty easy to ignore. (Even without using tape to cover the message).
It would be nice if I could find some local fellows who would be willing to share the cost of the tools necessary to reset the reminders.......even better if I could find someone to buy and run it and I could just stop over when I needed a reset.
I might try posting a request on Craigslist and see if there is anyone that can help me out.

My service light was on for close to 2 years. When I did take it in for service, they reset it and didn't tell me. On the ride home I had a tough figuring what was missing on the dash.

Thumpin. If you are getting a friend with access to a GS-911 or OBD reader to re-set the service reminder, consider setting it to a date and mileage you'll never likely to see. Say 2050 and 500,000 miles. Not a dealer, as they would probably not agree to do it. This assumes several things though. Firstly, that you keep a service record so you don't miss a service. Secondly, that you are doing your own servicing (otherwise the dealer should re-set it as a matter of course). Re-setting it to the far off future means you are not nagged by the reminder if you go a couple of hundred miles over the service date/distance, you don't have to buy the hardware/software, or find someone who has access to it.

I asked the service manager at the local BMW dealer if they would do just that (consider setting it to a date and mileage you'll never likely to see) as part of a service quote for a valve check,,. Nope,! so,,,,,,,, so far I've done neither,,!!

I went to a friends house to celebrate their new home and his finished garage shop. Several of us helped him move all his heavy tools (lathe, sandblast cabinet, air compressor, bike lift, tool boxes, etc.).
At the party I met a fellow who has an R1200RT and a R1100RS - and he has a GS911! I offered to buy a share of his 911 if he would reset my service lights.....he said he would do it for free! Cool!
