My wife's 2014 F700GS has a lamp error on the dash. Checked all lights and the normal headlight bulb is out, all other bulbs are working. I go get another bulb and put it in and the message did not go away and the bulb still does not work.

    Ant thoughts?

Check the pilot/parking light bulb located near the bottom of the low beam housing reflector. If it is burned out it will trigger the light bulb warning.

If I remember right you have to right a short distance for the light to come on, assuming the new bulb is still good.

The pilot bulb is lite up.

Guenther I won't be able to test that for 5 or 6 days. On our way to Idaho and the bikes are loaded up. I will get back later on this one. Thanks guys

Note: the multimeter says the old bulb is bad and new bulb is good.

Okay one must start the bike to have the lamp error to go out and the light turn on. It has got to be a BMW thing.

I think it comes with using electronic fuses. There might be a short in that circuit. So, I guess the startup procedure for each circuit needs to run and carefully check that circuit before power is connected. And such a test would typically run at ignition ON.

Check the tail light bulb by taking it out and looking at it.
If the 5W filament has failled the bike uses the 21W filament at low power as a substitute.

The dipped headlight bulb comes on when the engine is started.

Forgot about that! That's when the software has to check that circuit before allowing max. volts.

that is an annoying feature of these bikes - no dipped beam on without the engine. You can test every other light with the ignition on, but not dipped beam - why?!

Because all the electrics can be activated by the diagnostic tool.

So why do all the other lights work . . . . Makes no sense to me to not have a test function with ignition on.

Start up the bike and then shut it down - worked for me once.
