Bought it used ('08 800st), have fixed the commonly known issues BEFORE they happen (thank you forum people!), and now to take it out and onto the open road.
    Pure escapism!

    Hi,

Just bought an 08 ST myself and would be interested to know the common issues on this model that you referred to.

    Cheers

Sure sure...the common issues from my experience and readings from within the forum are: the fuel pump has a death wish, and the fuel controller has suicidal thoughts too so it wants out also if not now, later. The rectifier thinks it's life expectancy is a quarter of what it should be while the idle actuator has self esteem issues and doesn't seem to know where it fits in to the scheme of what is called a reliable, German engineered, quality, 2-wheeled masterpiece.

At least we don't have to oil a chain...

No chain, just a belt to rip the teeth from. My belt outlasted a deer strike at 57K miles and the 08 ST never had any of the other issues you listed. But it was killed in 2013 so maybe I would have had issues later on as the bike aged naturally.
