My new addition. Not dirty yet. This is the limited production Factory Replica with just about every option out of their accessory catalog, and a few such as dual map ignition which is not. Has Arrow titanium exhaust, carbon fiber skid plate and frame protectors, and a Guts tall seat. All direct from Beta.

Not shown on the other side it has a rubber strap for tying the kickstand up much the same as KTM.

My dealer also bought the Beta 450RS ordered and reviewed by Tom Webb in the June 2011 issue of Dirt Bike. (download PDF here)

On a lark they took the 450RS to an MX race one Saturday night. Got to helping one of the riders put a new tube in a flat tire, and after it still didn't hold air. With nothing to ride they asked if he'd like to borrow the 450RS. He won his event having never ridden a Beta before the starting gate dropped. Part way through that event he discovered the bike had a horn and was shortly blowing the horn every lap as he cleared the triple in front of the main grandstand. The crowd had never heard of an MX bike with a horn and went wild.

Created another sensation when thanking Adventure Off Road (http://www.tnaor.com/) for the last minute loan of the bike the dealer got to mention the reason the bike had a horn was that it was fully street legal but for the headlight, turn signals, mirrors, and license plate bracket were removed prior to the race.

Am pretty sure it still had the sidestand as well.

My street legal CRF450R had a ProMoto kickstand with retractable spring so it'd pull up and stay. . . fantastic! $149 or so I recall
    I googled Beta MX and couldn't find any info. It's a 450?

http://americanbeta.com/. Beta is best known for trials bikes. Is doing good in GNCC and National Enduros this year.

Prior to 2010 Beta was buying RFS engines from KTM. For 2010 they built their own engine which may or may not use the same mounting points as KTM's. It does use the same countershaft sprocket, and has same gear ratios on the transmission as the RFS EXC. That last thing isn't good in my opinion as 1st and 2nd are too far apart for a dirtbike, even a "wide ratio" dirtbike. KTM finally got it right in 2008 with the XC4 engine.

Following in KTM's footsteps Beta builds fundamentally the same engine in 350, 400, 450, and 520 displacements.

Very short videos taken a couple of months ago:

    http://home.hiwaay.net/~dkelly/dirtb...ocks%20(1).AVI
    http://home.hiwaay.net/~dkelly/dirtb...ocks%20(2).AVI
    http://home.hiwaay.net/~dkelly/dirtb...ocks%20(3).AVI

Then after doing it on a trials bike, I mount my Husaberg and make quick work of it:
    http://home.hiwaay.net/~dkelly/dirtb...Husa_Rocks.avi

The next time I try a harder exit and fall. Landed on a rock which punctured my ignition cover:
    http://home.hiwaay.net/~dkelly/dirtb...Husa_Crash.avi

Might have to download the above files if you don't have a browser extension for .AVI. VLC plays them just fine.

Guess I need to mount my GoProHD this weekend and post some really hard stuff. I suspect your KTM 690R was a bit too much for your ride above, that a 400 or 450 would have been much easier. Are you running knobbies or "dual sport" tires? How much air in your tires?

    Hey David,

The 690 wasn't in it's element but still very fun. It's only 2 weeks old so I'm not use to it yet and it's a little tall for me ( I can barely touch the ground) . Believe it or not , I had 28 PSI when I checked at home after the ride. I will make sure to air down next time. I'm running stock mt21 tires.

28 psi! OMG! You have skills you don't know you had, demonstrated by getting through that stuff and up those hills with that much air in your tires!

Next time drop the front to 12 and the rear to 10. You won't believe how much difference it makes. Doubt you should ride far or fast on the road at those pressures, but off road they are fine.

Also before sitting gets too ingrained in your off-road riding style, stand up everywhere you can, not just where you have to. If your knees and arms are strong enough to stand most everywhere then you will ride faster with less effort, and fall less often.

This is my then-new 2008 KTM 450XCR-W in its first race with only 30 break-in miles on the clock:

    2016 Yamaha FJR1300A; 2016 Beta 430RS; 2007 BMW F800S; 2009 Husaberg FE450; 2016 Subaru Outback; 2018 F150; 2013 Tesla Model S 85; 1983 Porsche 928S; 9 cats

I went for a short ride today with new settings. I aired down to 20psi and man did that make a difference ....I can imagine how better it will be with even lower psi ,so I will try your advice next time.
I always stand up as much as I can so thats no problem. On the rocky ride (in the vids) I was a little nervous to stand up everywhere I should have. Plus with the tire pressure I had , it was really bouncy so it did not feel safe for me. The degree of inclination either uphill or downhill was soooo impressive most of the time that it took me a while to get use to standing with the 690.
One thing is for sure, today with a little lower air , I discovered a new bike and it was great before but now I realise how wondefull this bike can be .... I love this bike

Thats a great shot of you on the 450....

It might be best that you work down to 12/10 front/rear. I find that is about as low as I can go before putting front rim at risk of bending (I have bent at that pressure) and much lower on the rear the tire slips on the rim running the risk of shearing off the valve stem.

Thats a great shot of you on the 450....
